Years ago I wrote 4,999 words for a Yuletide fic (after editing) and it's bothered me ever since. I feel you.
saying this when in fandom is extremely funny. you're definitely cringe.
I edit it but make sure the edits have the same amount of words.

Do we think that people are waiting on #46 to update their placeholder before claiming them? Because the Smiling Friends cartoon seems relatively easy to pick up, even if the others seem like longer and more complex canons.
especially if the recip seems to actually want bland fluff, and by the sound of things, they do.
+1 1k words of bland fluff seems exactly what the recip wants anyway. sure, it's not the 20k fic of their dreams but yuletide has never promised that.

imho yuletide should be fun and this sounds like hell... for your own peace I'd say default. I you should tell the mods about the any characters/DNW characters situation because that's honestly not fair. Otherwise, I'm sorry... I hope yuletide goes a bit better for you
It's impossible, so no. Sometimes it has taken a while. People are generally pretty amazing at hunting down canons and consuming them in this exact scenario, though.

My take on specifying characters is that it works better if you specify for every fandom with more than two or three characters, in that if you offer 8 fandoms with specified characters and 1 with any and there's nine characters in that any, you'll get assigned the one. Or at least I always do.
I don't doubt that they're the same person. But if I was a Yuletide mod, I'd probably want something stronger to go on.

Yes, the 1987 Yuletide collection remains unrevealed to this very day for that reason.
For last Yuletide I had the funny idea to make the fic an exact round number wordcount, and now every time I’ve reread it and noticed a minor line edit I wanted to make (word choice and grammar fixes and whatnot), I’ve had to figure out where to add/delete the corresponding number of words to keep it at the same total. Suffering for my hubris
Point it out to the mods. They may or may not be able to match you to someone else or tell you to just write a treat if your recipient DNWs the characters you matched on.
