Morbane's coal
In quantum wankchanics, Morbane's coal is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, of quantum wankerposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical gift may be considered simultaneously both the fic of your dreams (TFOYD) and coal, while it is unread state, as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.
The Coaltide interpretation implies that, after a while, the gift is simultaneously TFOYD and coal. Yet, when a coalie clicks on their gift, the coalie sees the gift either TFOYD or coal, not both TFOYD and coal. This poses the question of when exactly quantum wankerposition ends and reality resolves into one possibility or the other.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-01 01:44 am (UTC)(link)Thanks coalies, I'm feeling a lot better. I guess I just hoped there was more potential audience for the fandom that had maybe consumed the canon but weren't in the year-round fandom, but I overestimated the fandom's potential reach by a lot. Looks like the fandom is literally just the juggernaut shippers and my recip.
But my recip is awesome and I loved writing for them, and I hope they have a fabulous year.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-01 01:53 am (UTC)(link)Stuff like this is why I've gotten really picky about my offers. I know by now even if I love a really obscure canon I'll feel bummed in December when it doesn't get any readers, and same if I'm offering characters or a pairing that's not popular in a fandom. One exception was last year when I really didn't like the main pairing in a fandom that's since outgrown Yuletide, and was happy to write the pairing I did like and connect with a great recipient who liked it too, but i knew that going in.

(Anonymous) 2024-01-01 08:21 am (UTC)(link)I do something similar. I love writing for fandoms of one, but if I match on one for Yuletide, I make sure to allocate time for at least one treat as well. That way, I still get feedback, and I still get to play the small fandoms game.
