coaltide | Morbane's coal

In quantum wankchanics, Morbane's coal is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, of quantum wankerposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical gift may be considered simultaneously both the fic of your dreams (TFOYD) and coal, while it is unread state, as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.

The Coaltide interpretation implies that, after a while, the gift is simultaneously TFOYD and coal. Yet, when a coalie clicks on their gift, the coalie sees the gift either TFOYD or coal, not both TFOYD and coal. This poses the question of when exactly quantum wankerposition ends and reality resolves into one possibility or the other.

Not really. Saying "fandom is dominated by M/M, ugh fandom misogyny" doesn't implicate any single person. If you feel you are being personally accused of being a misogynist, I don't know, talk to a priest? Literally anything but howling about how you don't know how much activism I do IRL how dare you you don't know what's in my heart blah blah blah. This is literally the phenomenon "hit dogs holler" describes. You're taking a generalized statement deeply personally and pretending it was intended as individual condemnation.

That's not what the discussion is about though. The discussion is specifically about people saying that misogyny is the reason why M/M shipping is the most popular in the exchange. There isn't a generalized statement here, it's literally about that specific thing.

Like literally this thread is titled "Porn - M/M". We're having the argument here for a reason. It's not a general fandom musing that's happening in a vacuum and pretending it is is disingenuous.

Yuletide has hundreds of participants. Saying the M/M vs everything-else ratio is an example of fandom misogyny is not a personal attack any more than saying "this fandom is misogynistic" was a personal attack on LJ when the fandom itself may very well only be a few hundred people. It is fine to discuss bigotry manifesting itself in fandom trends, actually, and if you feel that is an attack on you specifically, I refer you again to the aphorism hit dogs holler.

It's an attack on a group of people. People who are part of a group are going to respond when you attack the group, it doesn't really matter what you're accusing them of and isn't verification that they're actually that thing.

If you were talking about misogyny in a vacuum, sure, but you could have easily called them all something totally different and gotten pretty much the same response.

You're basically pointing at a specific group (people who wrote M/M in Yuletide) and going "The reason why all these people like this thing more than the thing I like is because of misogyny". Then when the people in that group respond that they like M/M for real reasons, you're taking the fact that they responded at all as proof that they personally are misogynistic.

It's a damned if they do and damned if they don't situation, and people tend to respond negatively to those because they come off as manipulative.
