Morbane's coal

In quantum wankchanics, Morbane's coal is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, of quantum wankerposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical gift may be considered simultaneously both the fic of your dreams (TFOYD) and coal, while it is unread state, as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.

The Coaltide interpretation implies that, after a while, the gift is simultaneously TFOYD and coal. Yet, when a coalie clicks on their gift, the coalie sees the gift either TFOYD or coal, not both TFOYD and coal. This poses the question of when exactly quantum wankerposition ends and reality resolves into one possibility or the other.

What ship configuration did you write/receive?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-26 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by the discussion in the porn thread.

If you wrote shipfic for your assignment, was it m/m, f/f, het, other, or multi? If you received shipfic, what was it? (If you got gen, you can say that.)

Do you usually write that configuration?

Received several m/m (I only requested m/m).

I wrote gen (for the first time ever, I think).

I wrote m/f and other this year.
I received gen.

I mostly write a balance of gen, f/f, and m/f.

I requested gen and m/m and got m/m. I wrote gen. I have written gen, m/m, het, and f/f. I wish people would quit taking the stupid anti "ew fujo is misogyny" bait.

I wrote m&m gen, m/m, and m/m.

I didn't sign up, so no gift for me.

Wrote f/genderfluid character, received f/genderfluid character. I usually write and request m/m, so that was a nice change of pace.

Wrote gen, received gen.

I'm not a gen-only writer, but I write it pretty frequently.

Wrote M/M (preslash rather than full on shippy I guess) and gen, received gen and M/M/M. So by my impeccable ship math I won one M this Yuletide.

Generally write Gen. This year I wrote gen x4 and f/f, received gen x2 and m/f

I wrote f/f and m/m, and I received m/m!

I wrote m/f (x3) and received gen.

This year all the shipfic I wrote was m/m, but I actually ended up writing a substantial amount of gen as well, which is somewhat unusual for me, since the vast majority of my output outside of exchanges is shipfic (usually m/m, though I also dabble in het, f/f, and multi). I received one (m&m-focused) gen story and one m/m story. All my requests were m/m except for the gen story's fandom which had a handful of characters requested beyond the two that my author chose to focus on.

Wrote M/M for someone who requested it. When I write ships it’s typically M/M, though I write a lot more genfic than romance.

For the fandom I ended up getting gifted I said I was fine with shipfic of any combination of requested characters, and picked two male characters and two female characters, and made it giver’s choice. Received F/F that I like very much.

Wrote and received gen. My requests were for a mixture of gen, f/f, and m/f.

Matched on a canon where I offered "any" for a cast that was 70% female, they requested the one canon m/m ship nonexplicit, I wrote it.

Got fic for a canon where I left the prompt open for any genders for characters that don't have canon gender (and any rating), got pre-f/f.

I think the lesson here is there's more people who want to write f/f than request it.

Wrote 2x m/f, 1x gen; received gen. I write much more shipfic (of any configuration) for exchanges than I do on my own initiative, and Yuletide has historically been the exchange where I go heaviest on het.

I wrote gen with m/f implications. I received f/f and m/m.

Looking over my yuletide fics, I have written ~ 55% gen, 12.5% m/m, 10% het, 10% multi, 7.5% other, and 5% f/f. I have received ~ 53% gen, 21% f/f, 21% m/f, and 5% m/m.

Wrote F/F and got (great) F/F. I requested a lot of characters so there were options for m/m, m/f and gen too, but the majority of my prompts were for femslash.

Whenever someone comes swinging at the hornet's nest with "yaoi is misogyny" wank I always end up way too bothered because I look at my fandom-of-one fics with only a comment or two and wish the coalies taking the bait and preaching on an anon meme about how little femslash there is would go to the collection instead and give some love the the actual fics. Even though I know a good chunk of them already do that.

I wrote M/M as per my recipient's request.

I received het, also my request.

My non-exchange usual is het, but I've written all configurations in exchanges.

Wrote one m/m and one f/f, received one f/m/m. I always write a mix, so this is pretty representative. (None of the people wanking have commented on either of my fics - chop chop! Time to support femslash and/or stick it to the slash-is-misogyny wankers!)

wrote f/f, received f/f, on par with my general fannish experience!

Received het, wrote m/m. I write pretty typical m/m during the rest of the year (explicit shipfic) so I usually try to write f/f for exchanges but nothing grabbed me this year enough to offer it (I still need to watch Bottoms!)

Received F/F (mature), wrote F/F (explicit). Also wrote an explicit F/F treat. I'm a multishipper but F/F is my favorite.

Wrote gen, received gen, my requests were a mix, recip's requests were only gen.

Received f/f (2), wrote other. I typically write about equal amounts f/f and gen, and a small amount of m/m.

My requests were similar to that ratio, actually, mostly f/f or gen, one m/m.
