Morbane's coal

In quantum wankchanics, Morbane's coal is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, of quantum wankerposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical gift may be considered simultaneously both the fic of your dreams (TFOYD) and coal, while it is unread state, as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.

The Coaltide interpretation implies that, after a while, the gift is simultaneously TFOYD and coal. Yet, when a coalie clicks on their gift, the coalie sees the gift either TFOYD or coal, not both TFOYD and coal. This poses the question of when exactly quantum wankerposition ends and reality resolves into one possibility or the other.

Refreshing the stats every five seconds to see if there are more hits for my fic in a fandom from the ass half of the alphabet as if I am not myself going alphabetically and barely halfway through B.

I'm reading by descending word count.

I always start in the middle of the alphabet and wrap around. Someone give me a letter and I’ll start there.

This year I'm in a fandom very near the top of the page and idly considering only offering fandoms L or higher in the future.

Most years I do like the coalie below and start in the middle, then wrap back around, but this year I'm just skipping all over and finding fic that sounds fun and it's honestly a more enjoyable way to start. Usually it's more like I'm grimly determined to do right by authors, this year I'm just having fun reading.

Is it typical/expected to look at all the things? Because I'm very much only looking at fandoms I recognize. (Not "only ones I read fic for," because I only have a few fandoms that I routinely read fic for, but ones I recognize.)

Nah. When I go through the collection I only look at fandoms I both recognize and have interest in reading. (There are commercials, etc, that I recognize but have no interest in exploring more of the world of, so I don't click those.)

If someone recs something later I might read it even if I don't know the fandom, though, especially if I know I share their taste.

No, but I still always make it a project to try to at least look at all the fic in fandoms I know, whether or not I get past the opening. I don't want to miss hidden gems and I also want to give authors a fair shot because I know everyone is hungry for readers this time of year. It usually takes me a week or two and sometimes I burn out, so this year I wanted to make sure I found all the fic I was most into first.
