Mostly embarrassing to me, but put a treat in Madness when it could still have gone in the main collection, gnashed my teeth waiting for Madness to open, then gnashed my teeth for another few days waiting for a recipient to comment, only to find that they'd been in family crisis because a parent was being treated for cancer.

I didn't say or do anything bad, was just embarrassed about my ungracious thoughts during the wait. And it taught me to be a little more patient around exchanges.

Ooof. I have two, they are tied in the embarrassing highlight reel in my brain. My very first yuletide (back when Yuletide wasn't quite new, but still was only a few years in), I wrote very much a baby's first yuletide story. It wasn't especially good, it was heavily holiday themed and...yeah. The other one is that I wrote a story for a fandom a few years in of participating in yuletide (so I should have known better) where I realized the night before the collection opened that the recipient's letter said, "Please don't use [setting/thing] in this story." I'm not sure if the recipient had it in there all along and I missed it or if they added it in after I had originally looked at the letter and written the story? I had used the setting/thing and it was intrinsically tied to the entire story. I did not take it out. My recipient was very gracious and commented on my story, but...I felt terrible. I should have just tried to write a new story, but I did not. Oof. Still feel bad about it.

Putting "dogs" in their likes for fanfic =/= saying "I like dogs". It means "I like to read about dogs", which isn't a statement about their real life.

How is it so hard to understand that fictional (dis)likes and RL (dis)likes aren't identical?
