Best: someone took the time to watch through the bootleg recording i took of one of my beloved i-am-the-only-one-who's-a-fan-of-this theatre fandoms, and carefully constructed such a beautiful little fic for it, hitting all of my favorite parts. i cried that year, friends.

Worst: someone who was clearly, like, 15 picked up my pinch-hit, wrote a rambling author's note about how they didn't really know how to do Yuletide but they hoped I liked it, and wrote me 3k of absolute plotless garbage. It was well-intentioned but not well-written. I cried. but for a different reason.

Best: getting an amazing longfic of my heart for a prompt I didn't expect to be filled in a fandom that can be a little tricky to write for. My author truly knocked it out of the park and I'm forever grateful! Honorable mention: the time someone wrote pitch-perfect smut for me for extremely obscure, otherwise nonexistent-on-ao3 pairing.

Worst: the time I went to the pinch hit list and the person who snagged me truly tried their best, but wrote a hot mess of a fic that I didn't enjoy at all. It's the first and only time I've ever received what I'd classify as coal. I felt terrible because they clearly tried to tailor the fic to my prompts, but there were many skill issues in the execution. Figuring out what to say in my comment was excruciating, and it was a deflating experience overall. You win some, you lose some!
