Re: Too rare even for Yuletide?

I frequently (aka 90% of my 10+ years of Yuletide) will get into the smaller fandom of my recip’s requests and write that instead if what we matched on, especially if what we matched on is medium or big for Yuletide.

The only time I haven’t are when the fandom we matched on is the outlier. If you have 4 fandoms of random m/m requests, I can swap. If I matched to the one m/m and your other ones are for gen or het, I’m sticking with what we matched on. That is the real dice roll imo. If you have a theme for the microfandoms then you can lure people like me into them when I check out your biggest-microfandom.

However if you do want a mix of gen, het, m/m, f/f each then you increase your odds for random drive by authors to maybe pick one up, whereas if they’re all m/m and the “me” in this scanario only writes gen, they won’t look twice.
