Profound clash of fandom and DNW

I got my Yuletide assignment. The piece of media is unequivocally horror.

I look at my recip's letter. "No darkfic please!"

Maybe they mean nothing darker than canon, or no additional dark events that don't already occur in canon? Could you get a mod to pass a clarifying question along?

That's a good idea, thank you very much!

Just write something related to the canon that isn't horror? "Darkfic" is a specific kind of grinding, miserable grimdark genre, not just any fic where there's a zombie mentioned in the background, or whatever. Write h/c set during or after the horror, write a character study before or after the canon, write porn involving two characters from the canon, etc.

Porn or a character study would absolutely be my go-to if they hadn't requested worldbuilding (and, somehow, no other characters; I thought we were supposed to request at least one actual character if requesting worldbuilding!).

DC from the worldbuilding rules post: “you could match to a recipient who has asked for Worldbuilding only”

I worked out where I went wrong there; offers had to be Worldbuilding +1, but requests didn't.

Same hat, nonnie, except in my case the request itself clashes with the DNW.

In that case I'd say that the specific request overrides the DNW, but also just in case I'd probably send a message via the mods to clarify your recip's intentions.

You probably should have got your snark in before they got their answers if you wanted them to give a shit.

I think what counts as darkfic depends on the canon. Usually body horror and genocide would be darkfic but in Animorphs, that's tuesday. Now a fic dealing with the host breeding program WOULD be darkfic bc the noncon elements of controllers weren't explored in depth in canon.

Well, now you've got me thinking about writing Animorphs fic...
