(Anonymous) 2021-10-29 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)I think this is because present tense is harder to do well. When it's done well it's amazing (and the haters don't even realise they are reading present). Done badly and it's pretty noticeable. With past it's usually fine either way.
That said, if anyone is more comfortable writing in present, do that. It's only because you asked.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-29 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)The most obvious one is that if you're shifting between tenses - like if you're doing a flashback or even just stuff like a character walking down a street and reminiscing a bit - a lot of people don't know how to do that as smoothly in present as in past.
