It's a bit of an unpopular opinion. Lots of people will say they love long fic, but far fewer will say they prefer bad long fic over bad short fic.

There are some dedicated anons on FFA who say it every time the subject comes up. I say those anons didn't get coal for triple crown last year.

FFA BFE is weird about fic length. Weird about everything, but really weird about fic length.

The point isn't that longfic coal is great, but that it's potentially a little better than short fic coal because it has more chances of having redeeming qualities.

But if a fic is irredeemably bad, I'm not going to read the whole thing anyway, regardless of whether it's 1k or 20k, so it doesn't really matter what length it is. The extra 19k don't make it worse.
