re: and if you don’t like longfic as a gift, what would you say is “too long”?/whats your ideal gift fic length (assuming everything else is covered: it addresses one of your prompts, good writing, no DNWs, etc.)

Usually 5-8k is the sweet spot on "long" fic. You get multiple scenes and an arc for the characters that way but most people can read a fic of that length in an hour or so so it can be consumed in one sitting.

I agree with this. When you start getting into the 5 figure word counts, I just can't.
