How long do you think your assignment will be? Bets on the word count of the longest fic? Average word count?

I have a feeling mine's going to be in the 6k-8k range, but my assignments always end up getting a little out of hand so I'm fully prepared for that to be longer.

I'll put my bet for the longest fic on a solid, like. 50k work.

The writing period has heavy overlap with NaNoWriMo, so I'd imagine the people who pound out a longfic for Yuletide are at least doing something NaNo-adjacent.

Or they started writing it last Yuletide/had been working on it for another exchange and can finally finish and post it.

When a 30000 word yuletide happened to me, it was "oh this is a great idea it'll probably be about 8-9000 words I should start early" and then both estimated length and franticness of writing schedule went up asymptotically as I wrote and wrote and somehow got no closer to the end.

Having just finished the outline for my assignment, it feels likes it's going to be in the 3.7-4.1k range.

Longest fic, I'm gonna say 62k words

Average fic, probably 1.8-2k

Mine will probably be 3k or so based on my outline, but it's the sort of thing that could easily expand. I'm considering writing my recip 2 fics since I know one of their other fandoms, but their prompts aren't amazing so we'll see. (tbf, my prompts for this fandom weren't great either).

Longest fic = 57k?
Average = 1.3k (lots of people in chat seem to be saying their comfort zone is usually less than 1 or 2k, so I feel like it'll skew low)

Somewhere in the 10-12k range. I'm a little alarmed by this. I need to get cracking, but I have a fic for a different exchange I need to finish first.

considering I just outlined it and it's 2k words + plus a bunch of notes I have, I'm estimating at least 10k

It's shaping up to be about 4k.

Longest fic 50k+ - I will be mildly surprised if we break 60k though.

Average word count 7k

Just to be clear, by average I do mean average, skewed upwards by the inevitable long fics. I expect the mode to be more like 2k

I think my assignment will be about 2k. The prompt doesn’t call for anything longer unless I fall down a serious rabbit hole.

Most of my exchange fic has ended up about 3-5k in the last few years.

My assignment will probably only be in the 1500-2000 range. I'm thinking 40000 for the longest, average at around 1200.

3-4k probably. It's one of those five minutes canons so it's either going to stay a manageable length or it's going to explode.

hell if i know, i usually struggle to make it past minimum length (not bc i dont put effort! stories just want to end there!) but one time i thought i was writing a short character study and I had 4k by deadline. and the fic could been twice as long
