What you said about the dispersion of fandoms being hard to follow -- I really have been struggling with that lately. Like where IS fandom? My whole life fandom has been pretty much centered on one place: LJ, and then Tumblr. But now I feel like it's fragmented across Tumblr, Twitter, DW, Tiktok and probably other places I don't know about. It really bums me out. I love knowing that at least this community hasn't changed. I guess I'm just showing my age.

Knives Out. It seemed like it would be one of those "snuck in right before it exploded" fandoms that Yuletide gets every year. Maybe when the sequel comes out...

Live Free or Die Hard. I thought it had way more fics than it did, but then I remember "oh, yeah, I'm thinking of all the ones on LiveJournal."

The Good Place. I don't know why I osmosed that as being a huge fandom. Maybe I just assumed that because of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Parks and Recreation, the same would be true here.

Deltarune. I thought for sure it would have taken off like Undertale did, but apparently it's still small enough for YT!

I'm honestly surprised by that one too.

Knives Out wasn't even eligible the year of its release, because it came out in November. So when it was in last year, that was after it'd already been out for almost a year.

Actually, is The Good Place eligible? I see 1.3k on AO3.

Goblin Emperor, Gideon of the 9th(?), Tamora Pierce(?), Discworld, Monsterous Regiment(?)

Discworld as a whole is no longer eligible, Tamora Pierce as an author never was (although some of her individual series and novels are), and Gideon the Ninth is riiiight on the cups.

There was that one year when The Good Place had something like 20+ offers or requests, and I always think of fandoms with those sorts of numbers as "will be too big for Yuletide next year" but it didn't happen

I'm really glad the mods took the actual results from last year into account. I honestly feel kind of bad for the nominator since in their perfect world people would have leaned into the idea of exploring cartoon specific stuff and not crosstagged or written for the other fandoms...but that was never really realistic in this fandom.

Once upon a time, AO3 had each of the Tortall quartets split up into their own fandoms, like how FFnet does it. At that time, most of them were eligible for Yuletide. However, when you combine the big three (Alanna, Daine, Kel) into one fandom, it as a whole is ineligible. Beka's books are still eligible because of how separate from the others it is, and how few fics are written for that time period. I believe Aly's are too for the same reason.

You thought it was a small fandom! You thought it would stay a small fandom forever! Where did these 1000+ fics come from?

THE MUMMY. I nominated it without even checking because it's always been an exchange staple for me, and it got rejected. I checked afterwards and feel like a total dumbass now but seriously HOW :( :( :(

Does it have a big ff.net presence? Based on AO3 alone and with filters applied it looks like it would be eligible, unless I'm missing something

CYRT that was my mistake too, I only ever had the AO3 numbers in my head!

I don't think this counts for this thread, but relatedly - I never did the math for Worm because it's huge. There's so much fic on SB/SV and it seems very much against the spirit of Yuletide.

But I got curious and ran the numbers now.

782 (AO3) + 212 (FFN) + 116 (FFN crossovers) = 1110

That's much closer than I thought it would be! It might have been 'technically' eligible last year or the years preceding, wow.

I haven't read Ward, but I suppose someone could argue Ward in if they wanted to. (Too late now, but in the future.)

Today in #general-chat. The hippo dance thing gives me so much secondhand embarrassment I have to close Discord and walk away every time.

It's in that sweet spot where everyone has seen it but as a sitcom, very few people are directly fannish about it. Nice for exchanges, dead af outside them.
