It's a little bit over (26 episodes) and fairly recent history (1950s), but the 2004 Tetsujin #28 series is very good. It's about a young boy in post-war Japan who inherits a giant robot that his father built in the last days of the war, that he's now trying to use for good. Along the way he has to deal with all the terrors and war crimes the adults around him committed back in the war.

Formalizing it does break Yuletide for people who are neutral on gen vs. shipfic though. Instead of nominating and requesting A and B and calling it a day, they'd need to pick either A/B or A&B (since AND matching means you can't pick two mutually exclusive options), and conceivably the mods would have to adjudicate what counts as shippy enough to qualify as A/B. And what if you want A, B and C, and A and B can be a couple or A, B and C can be a threesome or it can be gen depending on your writer's preferences? Something like that used to be very simple to request for Yuletide, but under AND ship matching it's impossible.

It's also going to complicate matching, because if you've got a fandom with twenty characters and you're not willing to offer any, you used to be able to offer 10 characters and match to any combination of them, but now you can only offer them in various permutations. What if someone just offers A&B but I requested A/B? Now I'm unmatchable, whereas under the current Yuletide system we would have matched, and they might be perfectly happy to write me the shipfic. For people who exclusively want to receive or write shipfic or exclusively want to receive or write gen ship matching is preferable because it eliminates the possibility of an id mismatch, but for everyone else it creates problems.

Adding worldbuilding, OTOH, only affects people who choose to request or offer worldbuilding. It won't interfere with people who want to do character matching at all, except possibly by taking some people who don't really want to write 'Any' out of the offer pool. It's like if you could implement ship matching only for the exclusive shipfic and gen requesters/writers without fucking character matching up for the rest of us - if that were possible I'd be in favor of Yuletide adopting ship matching too!

I disagree that they're opt-in - I think requesting "Worldbuilding" switches them to opt-out - but I do think it's a perfectly reasonable thing to opt out of.

I've sampled that wank and it was glorious. The funny thing is that I was awol from fandom during that period due to rl things, and came back and signed up for season of Drabbles without realizing its fantastic origin story. Learning all this makes participating so much juicier!

When you post treats, you need to fill the recip name in yourself, and it offers possibles as soon as you start typing. Occasionally people get the wrong person because similar names.

Now, in theory, if you hated someone a whole lot, you could make a new account with a name that is almost identical to theirs (like Mobane, Mordane, Morbene), sign up to exchanges with high treat ratios and request popular fandoms... and request all the things they hate, especially things they find triggery. Sooner or later, someone will get the recip name wrong and gift them triggery fic.

For maximum impact, you'd need to be a good participant, who people will want to treat, of course.

Easiest to do with names that contain the letter "l" since you can just use a capital "I" in your name. That raises the likelyhood of oops a lot.

After applying filters, I'm getting 585 fics on the AO3 and 325+30 on ff.net. So yeah, barely eligible.

How did you get such a low number on ffn? I was getting something in the 500 range (making it barely ineligible), but I haven't used the site in so many years that I'm not sure I was doing it right.

I think I messed up the wordcount filter before; I just tried again and got the same as you. Nevermind! I'm kind of astonished that the number is that low, but it is.

FF.net numbers always tend to be lower than expected because a lot of people never bother to mark their fics complete.

I'm not sure why you'd bother when you could just make a new account and gift them the spitefic yourself. That's a ton of trouble to bet on the off-chance that somebody will happen to both write triggery fic as a treat and screw up posting.

Also I believe Abuse has already had to rule that making account names that deliberately resemble existing ones for purposes of harassment is a TOS violation, so it would probably only work once.
