It's not the tiniest, but Motherland: Fort Salem's probably still going to be eligible unless S2 makes the fandom explode, and anyone who's interested in alternate history, witches, uniform kink, and f/f should at least give it a try!

Coalie, I want you to know I watched the first episode of Motherland: Fort Salem, and it was pretty and ridiculous and took itself enjoyably seriously, but no one prepared me for the witch-marks that turn shiny when the witches have sex. Whose bright idea was that.

Reminds me of Shadowhunters using the worst CGI to give Magnus glowing cat eyes when he gets Super Horny and they had a whole scene where Alec reassured him he found them cute.

I can only say LOL!

It was a hilarious surprise! I was glad to be unsurprised for it, but I am just amazed no one mentioned that in any discussion I've seen in EAD or elsewhere of the show. Is it that the show is so bonkers that that doesn't even register?

My friend and I will definitely watch more of it when our schedules match up again.

Jsyk, M:FS reccing coalies - again, because I am watching this with a group, I've still only seen 4 episodes and am shortly to see episode 5, but one of my roommates watched the first 2 with us and moved away so now she asks for updates on our group chat. It was a lot of fun explaining to her that an entire half of the show so far has been about toy boys visiting for Beltane. Plus wedding next episode! The "codex" stuff was probably top ridiculous moment of ep 4 but I'm very hopeful ep 5 will offer more balloons of terror.

I'm so glad your group's been enjoying it, coalie! And I can't imagine having to explain it to someone who hasn't been watching the episodes, lol. :'D I'm pretty sure there are still some more balloons of terror in your future, and I hope you continue to have a blast, which sounds like a pun now that I'm rereading that sentence but I swear I didn't plan it that way!

Like, before I started watching it, I assumed it would be kind of overdramatic and take itself too seriously, but I could not have predicted the ways in which it would take itself too seriously. (OK, no, I did entirely predict "America: Witch Police" re: the vague global oversight role of North American witches, with only a token nod so far to other countries being unhappy about America's military actions in other regions.)

No, I know what you mean - I love a lot of things about the idea of the Salem witches negotiating to become a branch of the American military, but there wasn't much about the execution that was a surprise there. :| (Though the end of S1 could plausibly lead to additional plotlines about non-US witches, and I'd be thrilled if they rolled with that.) But for me, a lot of the rest of the show was like ... I don't know what I was expecting, but it WASN'T THAT. *____*???

Haha, I really want to poll anyone starting out about what they expected. For myself, I expected the military training thing to be far more like a normal boot camp. Whereas these kids have all the free time and no structure.

Hitting that +1 so hard! I want ALL the Motherland: Fort Salem fic next YT!
