COALTIDE Episode IV: A New Hope

It is a period of indecision.
Gaming gone right for some,
coalies successfully snagging
the assignment they wanted,
the first major hurdle against
Yuletide odds is a victory.

However for those not as lucky
to have gotten the recipient they
wanted, coalies can't help but
think about the hidden requests,
missed bullet and gem alike,
they now have to wait months
to get access to.

Haunted by these assignments that
could have been, or perhaps
mourning the gaming attempt that
went awry, coalies tell themselves
that they will get started on their
assignment right away so that they can
treat to their hearts content and
restore happiness to the Yuletide galaxy....

I'm only four chapters into the first book so I'm about to get spoiled left, right, and center. *slams fist on table* Let's do this!

nvm, I'm not looking at ALL those letters. Here's five random.

1. arbitrarily - Overall, a fantastic if wordy letter. Characters requested seem to be less requested ones, which is cool. Great likes section with a ton of things I also like. Same goes for the smut likes section. I have no idea who the two characters are, but the enthusiasm in the fandom section and prompts makes me want to pick up the book again even though I was a bit bored by it originally. Long prompts but they aren't too specific and provide a nice range of options. Would love to have as an assignment and would consider treating if I were familiar with the canon.

2. quantumvelvet - The general likes section is easy to read and very much RTMI, especially the cosmic horror likes ("characters delving into things humanity was not meant to know" and "bargains with devils/fae/other things that oughtn't be bargained with" are great--I might pinch them for my own future sign ups). Their DNWs are fine. Their fandom section is a good size and clear about their wishes and what they like about canon. All of their prompts seem to be canon AUs and canon divergence AUs, which is personally good with me but they could've provided more options. Would treat but only on one specific prompt.

3. etben - Brief letter is kind of off-putting. But at least it's absolutely clear they want weird Gideon/Harrow smut. Would not be happy with this as an assignment, but seems like something someone would definitely want to treat--just not me.

4. aria - The general likes section is a little bare bones, but it's okay. Their DNWs are worrying because they don't want "excessive violence or gore" but are okay with "canon-level." I'm not far into the first book but excessive violence and gore seems to be the theme of it. REALLY troubling that they requested 'Any' for this fandom. There's 20+ characters in the set. To be fair, though, they do say that if you offered for a niche set of characters they're happy to read it. Would not want to treat, might be cautiously okay with the assignment if I had offered for Gideon/Harrow and had a fave side character I wanted to feature.

5. Trialia - Introduction specifically states they favor micro-fandoms and this is the biggest yuletide fandom this year. Has a trigger list that includes gore, body horror, and canonical ableist language in the book. Also has a separate DNW section that lists horror (which is a problem for this fandom) and 'sex during pregnancy' (which is not a problem for this fandom, but annoys me--not wanting pregnancy kink is one thing, but not wanting pregnant people to have sex feels judgmental). The fandom section is short and has no specific prompts. They seem to only want angst, fluff, smut, or "exploration of mental health issues" Gideon/Harrow shipfic. Seems like a difficult assignment.

DC agrees on every other one of your points about Trialia's letter, but I'm not sure there is a more neutral way to put their DNW of sex during pregnancy. Maybe it squicks them, maybe it doesn't. I don't get the judgment there.

Hmmmm. You're right. I guess it felt like they could have said they don't want pregnancy fic/kink and the phrasing 'sex during pregnancy' implied some sort of immorality or grossness on the part of the pregnant person. It doesn't, though. Personal circumstances and current politics got me feeling some kind of way about my uterus lately; my bad.

"Angst, romance, fluff, sex, exploration of their mental health issues, their past or their future."

One of these is not like the others...combined with the specific call-out of canon "ableist language", it makes one suspect triala doth jones for issuefic.
