COALTIDE Episode IV: A New Hope
It is a period of indecision.
Gaming gone right for some,
coalies successfully snagging
the assignment they wanted,
the first major hurdle against
Yuletide odds is a victory.
However for those not as lucky
to have gotten the recipient they
wanted, coalies can't help but
think about the hidden requests,
missed bullet and gem alike,
they now have to wait months
to get access to.
Haunted by these assignments that
could have been, or perhaps
mourning the gaming attempt that
went awry, coalies tell themselves
that they will get started on their
assignment right away so that they can
treat to their hearts content and
restore happiness to the Yuletide galaxy....
Assignments out: between 26 & 28 October

Re: Preference Rating Game - Pilgrimage
(Anonymous) 2020-10-27 04:57 am (UTC)(link)1. LearnedFoot: I like the gif! I know this fandom but little things like that are really good at making me look twice at a fandom I'm unfamiliar with. "What this canon is" is usually a section I skim (I've been burned too many times by people selling a ship as being canon but it's really Hannibal/Will level at best, apologies to people who die on that hill or who say something is incest but they're just childhood friends, so I don't trust them. I'll google and believe the official synopsis) so hard proof like gifs or a screenshot is much better at making me believe your canon is RTMI than your potential fanon write up. Their prompts are interesting and varied. I like the weirder ones and how it seems easy to mix and match aspects of the prompts. I like that they address potential stress points for their writer on how certain details need to be handled. Their general likes work well with the prompts too which is nice. Would treat.
2. aohatsu: Could just be me but their anchor links seem broken. Another letter that addresses questions an author might have about how they want canon aspects things handled, which is good. I like that they went out of their way to give fandom specific likes. It was an interesting way to frame "what I like about canon" details. I wish they had more prompts, but what they have is varied. If I did a rewatch with this letter in mind, I would probably end up treating the fandom likes more than going with one of their prompts, but nothing in this letter makes me think they wouldn't like that. Their generic likes list makes up for what I think the prompts like. Would treat.
2. merle_p: I liked that they took what are generic likes and turned them into fandom specific ones that had prompts attached. I still believe that they would like any of the ones in their generic likes list, but I admit to feeling more inspired seeing their specific ideas for how they would like the tropes applied to this canon. Would treat. I apologize if I missed it (it's been a long day) but I don't think they addressed what they wanted to be done about the Mute's name and they don't mention any preference for POVs. Since original names and anything other than 3rd POV for Western movie canons can be hot button issues I would personally prefer to see the letter address that. I'd blame a recip for not speaking up if I chose the wrong name or guessed the wrong POV and they wanked at me for it, but I also want my recip to enjoy what I wrote and don't have fun playing opt-out lawyer so it would cause me a little bit of stress. This is a very minor nitpick in the grand scheme of things, but it's why I listed the other one first. If I wrote something for this letter that fit what the other letters requested too, I would probably chicken out and gift it to one of the other two rather than bothering the mods to double-check what their preference is. If they were my recip, I'd take the time to ask.
For the two tied in second place, I feel like they skew themselves to a treat close to the minimum. I don't think the first letter wouldn't like something in that wordcount, but the prompts in their letter make me want to write more while the others made me feel like I could knock out the even more worldbuildy of their divergent AUs in under 2k.
Every year I say I should write shorter things so I can be more prolific in treating, so in theory I should treat one of those two or both of them. However I know myself, so the only one I would end up treating would be the first letter and that fic would probably be closer to 10k even if I wasn't doing an ambitious plot.
