People just sucking it up and writing a polite thank-you for a DNW fic is how writers just keep on keeping on writing DNWs, though.

Tragedy of the commons, really. Each individual DNW recipient may be happier not reporting, but if no DNW recipients report, the overall experience in the exchange is worse as people keep repeatedly receiving DNWs.

In this model the recip has no responsibility if they don't want to. The mods act independent and no one is publically shamed. You have more protection if the mods actual do their job without you having to beg them to. Leave your nice but vague comment or a genuine comment. They're still going to make sure the author knows the rules.

A fair number of DNW recipients certainly feel happier reporting. Many people find comfort in complaining.
