Re: Unpopular Yuletide Opinions
(Anonymous) 2020-10-17 02:02 am (UTC)(link)There is a such thing as good faith ODAO, and most sign-ups don't include a long list of general likes to go by. Assuming ODAO = you're writing something you think your recip will dislike is unfair.
Re: Unpopular Yuletide Opinions
(Anonymous) 2020-10-17 02:16 am (UTC)(link)1. Combining your recips prompts, removing something from a prompt, adding a like to a prompt, or otherwise altering a stated prompt = not ODAO.
2. Writing something from their likes list or “why I like the fandom” part instead of using a prompt = not ODAO.
3. Seeing that all their prompts are established relationship with a B plot with AU backdrops (specifically they’re one half of the ship is a vampire, alien, or superhero while the other is human) and so you write a 10k fic where they get together at 5k and the rest is a developing established relationship where one half is a werewolf = not ODAO
4. Having a recip that asks for a lot of canon divergence prompts and canon divergence likes, lists 5 of their favorite episodes where they would like to see a divergence, and you write them a divergence from a different episode = not ODAO
5. Reading your recips prompts, likes, DNWs and writing something that is not implied by the prompts, listed in the likes, but technically isn’t a DNW and you have no reason to think they will like this thing but they didn’t DNW it so odds are it won’t RUIN Yuletide for them even if there’s a slim chance it’s relevant to their interests = ODAO.
Here’s where my UYO comes in I guess but.
A. Someone with a long letter/sign up with multiple likes and prompts = you really have no excuse to ODAO even if all they want is underage porn. There should be something in there you can modify.
B. Someone with 5 likes and 3 prompts per fandom = ODAO is a little more understandable but still you should try no include something they like.
C. One prompt and no likes = ODAO is understandable and maybe even expecred.
D. No details at all beyond DNWs/now DNWs at all = it’s impossible to ODAO. Whether they know it or not, their prompt is “give me anything you want (as long as it doesn’t have my DNWs)!”

(Anonymous) 2020-10-17 03:32 am (UTC)(link)Otherwise, I can think of at least two times when I fulfilled specific prompts from a long list, but mostly my recips have wanted things like "X being awesome!" or "Something where X & Y interact." Those are easy to fulfill! (Well, not easy. Writing is hard. But you get what I mean.)
