I feel strongly Gheorghe can do better and if I were requesting God's Own Country I'd probably ask for him to meet someone else and go off and live in wedded gay bliss with a farmer who isn't such an asshole and who will properly appreciate what a catch he is.

Which is one reason I'm not requesting it.

I wouldn't ask for gen, though. And I'd only request Gheorghe, though obviously if you offered both of them you could match to me.

No, I get what they were going for, I just don't agree that one trip up to Scotland compensates for the general assholery and being-a-Yorkshireman-with-lousy-communication-skills problems Johnny has, which show no real signs of abating.

He's now willing to put a greater than zero amount of effort into this relationship. Great. He still sucks as a person. True, he's a sucky person with a farm, but there's got to be another gay dude with a farm somewhere in the EU who doesn't suck that Gheorghe could marry instead.

I disagree, I thought that the trip was Johnny's pledge that he was going to change and a demonstration of his commitment to see that through.

This was further cemented by him telling his dad before he left that if he was going to run the farm but it was going to be his way (and his dad agreeing) with Gheorghe as an equal and by getting rid of the caravan ASAP and the both of them living in the house.

It’s okay to think that what he did was irredeemable or that since Gheorghe never made mistakes, he’a further along as a person and deserves someone on that level, but acting like Johnny didn’t do multiple things to show that he was not only willing but ready to put up or shut up is just inaccurate.

Allowing your boyfriend to live in the house with you instead of exiling him to a caravan is like... the absolute bare minimum of acceptable treatment of a significant other, though. Johnny has just staggered up to baseline. I appreciate that the intimate involvement of his parents complicates the situation a bit, but I'm reluctant to give him points back for that because they also complicate it for the significant other who has to live with them.

And while there's some commitment on Johnny's part to stop treating Gheorghe like shit, we have no particular reason to believe he's going to stop treating the rest of the world like shit. He's just realized it's enormously in his interest to moderate his assholery around the man he loves. Maybe that'll lead to a wider epiphany, who knows, but I just don't feel like he has a vast amount to offer here. Apart from the farm, and presumably his dick.

Gheorghe clearly thinks it's a bargain worth making, but I remain unconvinced.

NAYRT that's cool if you're not convinced that they're a good match, but I think the idea that Johnny isn't committed to change is demonstrably false. What we saw in that tiny segment at the end was the first steps towards making a change. Some of us can extrapolate that things in general would improve on Johnny's part, it's fine if you personally cannot.
