I agree that you can DNW shipfic in general, I was mostly disagreeing that DNW unrequested pairings would solve OPs problem when they're requesting any but don't really mean any.

I don't think DNWing unrequested pairings would have an effect on the characters they receive fic about (it doesn't matter if they don't put out prompts for character X; if they request any, they can and might still receive fic about X), but it would certainly help them not to receive fic about ships they don't want.

Yeah. If X is the only character they didn't leave any prompts for and they DNW unrequested pairings, they shouldn't get any pairings featuring X. They might still get fic featuring X and whatever other character the writer offered, but that would either be gen or feature the other character in a relationship that was requested.
