Youtube series vs. RPF?

(Anonymous) 2019-10-27 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
For nominated characters from youtube, when are youtube series considered "other media" and when are they considered RPF? For example, what is the difference between Buzzfeed: Worth It (a food show on YouTube) and Sorted (a food show on Youtube)? On is categorized as other media, one as RPF.

I guess I'm asking because I feel like RPF is somehow more about the celebrity/historical figure's irl details, while a youtube show would be more about the content of the show? But there are a few youtube shows slotted under RPF instead.

For yuletide it probably has to do with "did it get nominated with RPF in the fandom name". I don't know how they decide within the grander scheme of tag wrangling.

There is no system. It's purely on the whim of the tag wranglers. I've nominated a YouTube fandom in which the characters are obviously fictional and not Real People, but it got categorized as RPF and *shrugemoji* apparently that's just how it is!

/not the 11'8" Bridge nominator, for the record. They do this a lot.

This.

A YouTube series I often request and offer is clearly fictional (actors play the characters, even), and AO3 has blithely categorised it as RPF, seemingly at random.
