It would make a huge difference to me as recipient.

As a writer, I get your point: play it safe and don't do dumb letter of the law vs. spirit of the law quibbling. But as a reader, I really do mean on-page premature death when I talk about disliking character death.

As a fellow reader, I just mean I don't want anyone dying, in particular requested characters. I put in (major, usually) character death DNWs when I've had a death in the family and even a short bit about someone beloved being gone can set off my grief.

It does though. I personally wouldn’t have minded a fic with this premise if my fave had a good life and went out offpage on their own terms. It’s a whole different level of coal if the fic deals with a realtime early or violent death. Now that would be traumatic to receive while the other thing is sad but not enough to make me throw a fit over it.

I would really like this fandom to revive itself sometime in the near future — it was my go-to for browsing/reading for ages and now it's just shriveled up.

What kind of ship are we talking about?

I nominated Mindhunter because I want to see fic for Bill/Holden based on their chemistry alone in S1. They constantly share hotel rooms, ffs. Bill is protective and Holden has no sense of personal space in canon. It’s recent enough! And approved.

What kind of thing were you into? I was into politics and minor characters, but I read D/L mostly because that was what was there. I've got a few things I'd like to get back to and finish and I'm still on the discord a bit.

Maybe try to avoid judgment? Just list what you don’t want without any explainers about why.

This. People seem to forget that the reason Morbane was granted mod powers during the 2.0 era is because she was vocally pro-mod and inserted herself via volunteering*


* not even trying to shade. The way you get into the establishment isn’t by being a lurking NNF and vocally not supporting the prior regime.

If it’s open to interpretation, non-judgmental explanation will save you more than it’ll ever harm you when it comes to people wanking over your letter.

“DNW: Incest kink” Yet you requested a father/son ship.

“DNW: Incest kink. I know I requested some incest ships and I have no problems with them being intimate. I DNW the focus to be on how dirty it is that they’re together or lots of mentions of “daddy” and “son” during sex. I prefer to have the focus be on how obsessed and devoted they are with one another.”

Better yet, put that DNW specifically in the fandom section along with the explanation.
