Good god. My regular fandom sign-up got the most boring assignment imaginable out of the many great letters and prompts I'd read. Unanticipated.

My sock got matched with someone who signed up obviously last minute on a fandom I offered that had no sign-up the entire time. The request is for a friendship fic, with no details and a placeholder letter.

Got no prompts, just a big list of what not to do. No letter either. Would help if I at least knew what they liked about the canon or characters...

I imagine it was someone who was intrigued by the fandom anyway? I don't think anyone would spend money to get someone else off the PH list unless they had an interest in the fandom themselves. Whether other fandoms are freely available is kind of irrelevant when you DGAF about those fandoms.

The fucking perfect storm:

1) No letter, no prompts
2) The fandom we matched on is the outlier of their requests (think all G-rated nostalgia fandoms and one hard R horror movie) so I can't use their other fandoms for any evidence of what they want
3) They're not a sock, but all their fic on AO3 appears to be generic slice of life, which doesn't work at all for the fandom we matched on

I don't even know what I'd write this person as 1000 words of nothing, tbh. I'm gonna have to email the mods and ask to be thrown any scrap of prompt.

It's a fandom I loved and can easily canon review - yay! the prompts are not particularly inspiring - boo. Upon reflection I think the underlying interest behind the prompts is something I'm also into and even if I can't do the particular prompts will be able to incorporate into what I do write- yay!

I knew I should have un-offered this fandom. Doh.

Boring requests, no letter, and it's a fandom where my own plotbunnies are for something that's arguably opt-in (or at least nonstandard for this fandom).

OTOH, it's yuletide-popular, an I love canon, so review will be fun, and I'll get lots of attention. Time to investigate whether my plotbunnies are likely to be palatable to my recipient or whether I need to come up with something else.
