If the lack of matches is on the potential authors for you side, there's never a reason to panic. Yuletide has a great PH list and people get picked up quickly, even with tiny fandoms. And you can always be an IPH, even if you did have potential authors, if those potential authors got assigned elsewhere first.

If the lack of matches is on the people to write for side, it's still not worth panicking at this point. We've got maybe half of the expected signups in, which means half are still to come. If you want, you could start checking out some of the roundups of short canons (short stories, songs, etc.) already on the comm, just in case you need to add something. But I wouldn't panic just yet.

Do I need to watch the three hour version? Because if so, I'll have to un-offer the fandom.

Aww, honey, are you sad we're not paying attention to you instead? Bless your heart.

Everyone is bi and willing to put sexual attraction over their own moral compass.

All the more in mine! :)

Anyone else?

Feverishly refreshing the sign up summary to see if my letter has driven anyone away.

Dororo is hella gay, everyone in it is super duper extra gay, but everybody’s waiting on Hyakkimaru to slay the dick demon to get his junk back

It me. But at least I am giving people the option to game for or away unlike some people in my fandoms

It's early - don't worry about it quite yet.

I’m just annoyed that there aren’t more letters in fandoms where it’s 2, X or 3, X and mine is the only one posted. I like to see what other people want from the fandoms! And I don’t want my authors to get scared off.

You just made me want to look into this, coalie.

I have one offer on a fandom for which I am the sole nominator and requester and I just posted my letter and if they vanish I will die of shame.

So, idk if it really counts as an identity headcanon because in canon she doesn't really display symptoms. But I think Cinderella SHOULD have C-PTSD.

Overthinking Things is a Coal Speciality

Do you notice when someone writes a treat for a known, frequent wanker? Does it impact your opinion of the writer at all? Or do you assume that they just don't know the history?

Keep in mind, I'm talking about a perfectly normal story, not deliberate coal or something wankworthy on its own like someone giving ars_belli the Nazi fic of her dreams.

Re: Overthinking Things is a Coal Speciality

(Anonymous) 2019-10-31 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think about it at all.

I don't feel the need to investigate a person's opinions or fandom activity before writing a treat and I don't think others do either. I only look at /gifts to see if I'm likely to get a comment or not.

I don't really notice. Or if I do, I just assume that they liked the person's prompts.

Not unless I’m BEC about the specific wanker, like if it’s Aja, but sometimes even wankers have good prompts

Re: Overthinking Things is a Coal Speciality

I would just assume that they don't know. Unless it's ars_belli or someone like that, perhaps, because if I was heavily side-eyeing the prompt I might also side-eye the person picking it up.

But in general, a lot of people who do YT don't do exchanges throughout the year or even write fanfiction much outside of YT, so it's entirely possible that people just don't know. I am sure there are many exchange wanks that I missed during one of my periodic absences from fandom.

And overall, I choose to treat because I want to write a specific ship and the requester's take on the characters is similar to mine.

The other way round, that's also a reason *not* to treat people who are totally lovely and whom I'd otherwise want to treat.
Like, I was looking at misura's letter earlier today because they have treated me before and I wouldn't mind being able to treat them and we share two fandoms ... but then I realized that they have DNW'ed h/c and pining for most of their ships, and ... I am not sure I know how to write fanfiction without any pining and h/c. Those are my major go-to tropes. So ... I probably won't end up writing that treat for them after all, even though they deserve all the treats.

So I already have two of these bookmarked and have been waffling on offering to match to the other two.

Dorinda’s very clear on what they like and why, but I’d prefer more examples. Their episode-specific DNW in Guardian is useful, but I don’t like dismissing outright the character notes we got even though they were played for laughs in canon (the episode wasn’t a personality swap but an uninhibitor - we saw aspects of characters they would not want revealed or would not normally act on) so while I understand the DNW and could write something without touching on it, it lets me know I’m not the best match for them. I could write for them, but I’d worry about how and what all along the way.

ExtraPenguin is in another of my fandoms and we don’t know each other but in general I think they’re rad for fighting the currents in their little rare ships and dynamics. I like the variety of options they give and how clear they are about what they want and don’t want so that folks can game to include or exclude them appropriately. Formatting feels quick to read, and their enthusiasm is clear without rambling. I could match to them, and know what I’d be working on within a brainstorming session.

Duckwhatduck’s letter feels sparse, and I’d really like more prompts or opinions in general. I could write for them, but I don’t know if our readings will match and I don’t think our preferences align but I’m not sure.

Lannamichaels’ letter is hilarious. I love their enthusiasm and many of their prompts. I have a good idea of what I could write for them already and I would have fun writing it. Bookmarked immediately.

I can see somebody requesting them and not wanting smut, but would somebody actually request a canon m/m pairing and want complete gen without anything shippy at all?

It's not readily available in the west, so I don't think you're expected to have seen the director's cut. I may offer, and I've only seen the version that's a couple of hours.
