This is Yuletide, everybody make a scene

I am the sock with the tear-away face
Low-effort with your gift and gone without a trace
I am the "who" when you call, "Who does an exchange without acknowledging their gift?"
I am the wanker blowing through your fics comments
I am the coalie dragging your letter at night
Filling your exchange to the brim with fright!

This is Coaltide!

DA and I personally didn't get a whiff of troll around this subthread. In fact, I think this subthread is a fine case of both groups missing the nuances of the points the other group is raising, and a misunderstanding between people who've been modding since long before AO3, and mods who've only ever known what it is to mod with AO3 and similar, newer platforms, software, and so on. The fact remains, without AO3, many of the newer mods who lack these skills would need co-mods who have them in order to set up and run exchanges, and would not be able to run or help with the technical side of things. But they could, of course, perform all the other modding tasks that don't involve those skills.

To say that is a personal insult to people who don't have those skills, just a statement of fact that AO3 made a lot of the more technical aspects of modding substantially easier. There have been some extremely angry replies from people saying IT skills aren't needed at all to mod, like they've been told: "you aren't good enough to mod!" Which I don't think it what is being said at all. I didn't get the impression anyone was saying you NEED good IT skills to mod on AO3, but that AO3 mods without that knowledge should have a co-mod who does because, even on AO3, things can and will go wrong, which I agree with.

As the AYRT said, yes, there were some anons who seemed hesitant or even adverse to letting a mod without those skills control aspects of an exchange which, at least pre-AO3, needed those skills, lest they accidentally cause a major problem. While there have been some AO3-era cock-ups caused by mods' human error, I get the impression most of the hesitant or adverse people are speaking based mostly on pre-AO3 experience of mods without tech skills breaking something critical. Which is also something that happened a lot. But I don't think that group sounded as angry as those claiming no IT skills are needed to mod.

Probably need to get your nose checked, then. Or a new mirror.

Leave it, they’re just getting fap material out of baiting.
