This is Yuletide, everybody make a scene

I am the sock with the tear-away face
Low-effort with your gift and gone without a trace
I am the "who" when you call, "Who does an exchange without acknowledging their gift?"
I am the wanker blowing through your fics comments
I am the coalie dragging your letter at night
Filling your exchange to the brim with fright!

This is Coaltide!

Oh, my God. Why the hell are you getting so aggressive over this? It's pretty clear that a number of people here have modding experience and that the people you're responding to are talking about people becoming a mod/wrangler/etc of an established exchange, which doesn't usually occur via Discord. Becoming a mod of a brand new, or less established, exchange, is sometimes different, especially if you're starting your own. I don't anyone here is "boasting", either, just stating the obvious that having at least someone on your mod team with at least some basic IT skills is important, not in the least because WYSIWG is an ironic name for a product if ever there were one. IDK if you're just anxious about your own lack of IT skills, or if you can't comprehend what is being said: IT skills are useful when modding exchanges, and become more important the bigger your exchange is.

Pot kettle black, aggressive coalie.

I think this coalie is a hell of a lot less aggressive than the angry ranter they’re replying to.

I'd ask if you were OP but clearly this is your first day on coal if you think this is aggressive. But yeah, people do get pretty aggressive sometimes! Like when someone starts a thread claiming to have literally committed crimes to drive people out of an exchange, apparently continued this weird vengeance campaign over a period of years, admittedly got random uninvolved people caught in the crossfire, and have based the whole story around flat-out obvious lies about what modding entails. That does tend to make people combative.

I'd grant you that IT skills certainly are important to modding as defined elsewhere in this thread, but that doesn't mean a lot when that definition is so broad it includes spreading jam on toast, brushing your teeth, and patting your head while rubbing your stomach.

I suck at patting my head while rubbing my stomach. Is that why the tag set hates me? If this works, you have done me a great service, coalie.

(A+ though.)

lol. I don't think OP told any "flat-out lies about what modding entails". I get the impression, tbh, that OP works in IT IRL, or at least wanted to imply that they do. If they do really have hacking skills, it wouldn't surprise me.

And sure, YMMV, but I don't think any of the mods-should-ideally-have-some-IT-skills crowd above were being quite so broad as you say. It sounds like they've been mods since well before AO3 existed, back when you at least needed some HTML skills to get basically anything done. It sounds more like a generational disconnect than anything else.
