This is Yuletide, everybody make a scene

I am the sock with the tear-away face
Low-effort with your gift and gone without a trace
I am the "who" when you call, "Who does an exchange without acknowledging their gift?"
I am the wanker blowing through your fics comments
I am the coalie dragging your letter at night
Filling your exchange to the brim with fright!

This is Coaltide!

Knowing how to “code” is just extra. It can be useful to know how to export things and do them in spreadsheets, but the actual Ao3 UI, awful as it is, makes it extremely easy to do things as listed. You can have a bunch of PHs and do nothing to double assign those without assignments if you really want to. Your exchange doesn’t need an app and as nice as it would be, having tech skills doesn’t meant you can do custom things to the Ao3 system to make your exchange not get hit by bugs that every other exchange is subject too.

Being able to “code” can make your life easier if you like doing things a certain way, but you’re a pen and paper person you have the same “advantages” as a coder. Having a workflow/process & experience is the hack, not technological prowess.

In terms of specific IT skills, being confident in extremely basic HTML mark-up is helpful for making posts on Dreamwidth and writing up your FAQ on the AO3 collection itself. It's also useful to have intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.

However, neither of those skills are strictly necessary. Python sure ain't. Regular expressions sure ain't.
