What's the DNW? Or at least what type of DNW is it?

(I just added a very fandom specific DNW that could technically block two of my pairings from appearing at the same time, so I'm curious.)

They’re open to poly, so I was angling for framework of a poly network but in-fic focus on the sub-unit V involving their two ships of three characters. The new DNW rules out the larger network and (coincidentally) the plot context for the V’s encounter.

I look at it typed out now and feel like I should have expected this possibility. I will cling to this, my last scrap of good sense, and sit in the corner for a while contemplating how I very nearly gave someone I want to do a nice thing for a super wanky non-present in my enthusiasm.

I'm sorry it didn't work out :( Sounds like you were trying to do a really nice thing (and them being open to poly sounds like it was reasonable to start something like this.)

Now that I’m feeling less melodramatic and “BUT IT WAS FOR THEM” I’m actually glad I read their most recent version of the prompt closely enough to realize I was on a path to possible disaster. I’m going to work on the draft later and post it as an ordinary work in the fandom, because maybe it’s the fic of someone else’s heart. Maybe I’ll message the intended recip in case they’re interested in this sort of story outside of exchanges but don’t want such as their gift.

I am worried this is me because I did just recently add that particular DNW to my DNWs. Would saying the fandom deanon you too much? I might be editing the DNW out because some of my ships do fall within that realm, so if I could have more details, I can give you a better idea if it's me and what I'd be ok with.

Don’t remove your DNW! I don’t think it’s worth risking a main gift you can’t enjoy.

I’ll say that it’s a danmei novel, and I have decided I will definitely message the intended recip when I’ve finished to say I was inspired to write a fic with (Whatever Tags) and would they be comfortable being gifted the work or credited for the prompts I used.

This sounds perfect. Ask them privately with no expectations that they read it or want it. But definitely post it, without mention of the intended recip if that’s what they ask. I’m sure there are others who will enjoy it!

All thanks to coalies for helping me get to this decision! I’m glad I was able to get through my handwringing and wailing phase here. I’ll grow up not to be a 100% Dumbass Participant... only 90%!!
