I'm resigned that I'm gonna be an IPH with my three fandoms of one too, but that sure as he'll isn't going to stop me.

Apparently autocorrect doesn't like swearing.

Nobody is offering any of my fandoms either and I'm not sure whether to stick to what I want and go to IPH, where people might wank about my letter and I might get really upset over it, or to add a fandom that I don't want anywhere near as much but does have offers.

Hint around? Do a 3T1L on letters?

I suspect a lot of people sign up last minute, too. Which makes me nervous, but is good for those really rare ones.

Don't do that.

Wankers gonna wank; that's their problem, not yours. But if you end up with a gift you aren't happy with regardless of quality simply because you didn't want the fandom enough, that's really unfair on your writer.

Stick to the fandoms you really want.

There's usually ~15 IPHs and not all of them are because the fandoms are rare. If people haven't noticed you on the list multiple times before, they're not likely to wank about you.

Going to IPH does get more eyes on your requests, which increases the likelihood of wank, but unless you are an already known wanker/person who attracts wank or have some notably bad DNWs, you'll be fine. And the upside of more eyes is more chance of treats!

I've been an IPH more than once, and no one has ever wanked about me. I've never regretted asking for what I want, including some pretty niche stuff. If I'd given in and added something to be more matchable, I would've missed out on some really great gifts. And the people who linger super long are more the exception than the rule, even with smaller fandoms.

Also, it's worth remembering that people will pick up pinch hits for things they might not be willing to offer, because with a pinch hit, you know exactly what you're getting. And that plenty of pinch hits are picked up by people who aren't participating in the exchange. Every time I've been a PH, the pinch hitter has been someone who wasn't signed up. So seeming lack of interest among participants doesn't necessarily indicate lack of interest among people who might be keeping an eye out for pinch hits.

+1 to your second paragraph especially. Almost all the things I have picked up for pinch hits are fandoms or character combos I didn't offer, either because I simply didn't think about them, or because I didn't feel comfortable blanket offering them for one reason or another. But the PHs had prompts that I liked a lot and felt like I could do justice to, so I grabbed them.

On the other hand, they will wank about how all participants who go to IPH with small fandoms are greedy, selfish speedbumps who are ruining exchanges for everyone, and shouldn't have signed up at all if they were too stupid and lazy to ensure they were matchable.

That's true, but no reasonable person would be bothered by that sort of wank. No one should let some asshole trolls get in the way of enjoying exchanges.
