it's not like you can't reject a gift work if you're really unhappy with it.

Sure you can, but as recent wanks have shown, it's not exactly uncontroversial to reject gifts simply because of bad writing / bad art skills.

(Also, "art treats welcome" means "I would like at least one written gift in this exchange". That's not a result gained from potentially rejecting a bad art gift.)

(Well, sure. I wasn't suggesting that you ask for art if you really want fic. I was talking about rejecting a bad art treat, not a main gift. Sorry if that was unclear!)
