DC Asking the mods not to match you doesn't really help you avoid treats, though.

IDK. My solution is just not to ask for fandoms where the creators do this.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, if the mods couldn't guarantee they would not be my assigned writer I would just not request the fandom. Idk, in general this kind of thing would put me off a fandom entirely, I imagine. But I dont' really know since it hasn't ever been an issue for me. It just strikes me as so massively awkward, ugh...

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I don't want the creator reading what weird kinks I wish to see their characters engage in. Thanks but no thanks.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
haha, fair point in general but such a non-issue with Lee

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
And? That's not what the main issue is for a lot of people.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
Okay? You're entitled to your opinion, you're not entitled to have everyone share it.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
DC Replying to 'I really don't want a creator seeing my kinky requests' with 'oh but this creator is totally fine with kinky requests!' is someone either missing the point entirely or dismissing the point entirely. So a dumb comment or a shitty one, basically.

cyrt

It's not missing the point to point out that the MC of the series is on-page canon seriously kinky.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
It is totally missing the point because that is not the point. omg.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Why don't you explain, then? I responded earlier noting that that's a fair point with authors in general but doesn't make sense with Lee specifically, and then the response to that made me think that the "main issue" wasn't the kink at all, but just the idea of the author seeing people's requests or writing fanfic in general. Now you're saying it is actually about the kink. If you want to be understood, be clearer.

DC

One can want to keep things private from specific people even if those specific people would theoretically be fine with the things one wants to keep private.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
DC And also, I'm not sure I'd assume that "character is kinky in canon" = "author will be okay with any and every kink for that character."

I have enough "character would NEVER" reactions for people requesting kinks in canons I just consume; I can only assume there's some point where the author would start thinking the request was OOC and made only for the requester's personal kink fullfilment.

That's fair, we did get one fic that was like that this year, actually.

but it’s a bit like secondhand embarrassment, i imagine. it doesn’t matter if the person who pissed themselves/was left at the alter/is being laughed at by the whole world doesn’t care what is happening to them and feels no shame, *you* are embarrassed for them and cannot control that feeling.

it’s great that the canon/creator is sex-positive. doesn’t change that some people don’t want the creator-fan wall broken.

This doesn't make the "is it about creators in general, or kink specifically" question any clearer.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
both.

they don’t want the creators knowing they want kinky porn. they are fine with other fans knowing. the fact that they want kinky porn is an expansion on a broader issue, as i bet a gen request isn’t something they want the creator to engage with either.

is this really so hard to grasp? lots of people wouldn’t want to be RTed by an actor they stan, but they REALLY wouldn’t like it if that tweet was one of those “i would let ben whishaw fist my whole asshole” tweets either.

¿Porque no los dos?

I both do not want creators offering or requesting their own canons in fanwork exchanges because of power imbalance/general awkward weirdness issues, and do not want to discuss my kinks with them because I find it squicky and boundary-crossing.

The authors who claim their characters are their children and fanfiction is therefore kidnapping and/or raping their children are nuts, but discussing explicit fic about a creator's own characters with them does feel a little bit like discussing a partner's kinks with their mom.

Yeah, exactly (just commented above). You put it much better than I could.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-02 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
That is completely missing the point. I don't care if the characters or the author or whoever is "seriously kinky"! I don't want that wall broken.

+1 I'm never requesting this fandom if the author might just decide to randomly write Treats for it and not use a sock.
