Because I work better when setting myself arbitrary goals. I'm aiming for 10-15 comments by the weekend myself.

Ooh, great idea. I have about 15-20 works on my to-read list all up, and most of those are on the short side. I'd like to read & possibly comment on all of them by the time reveals go live.

I will comment on every fic I bookmark!

I'll comment on my gifts by Sunday evening, and on 5+ fics per day for the following three days.

This thread made me wonder how many I've left so far, because I've been commenting on everything I finish, and I don't keep track usually. I just went back through my history and not counting my own gift I've left 17 comments between the main collection and madness.

I still have so many stories I want to read, so 35 ought to be an easy number to hit by reveal.

How are you all doing on this?

I just checked and not counting my gifts I've left 30 comments so far. I've read some stories I haven't commented on, but not many. If I genuinely have nothing to say by the end, I kudos. I'm going to read some more tonight, busy tomorrow, and then Monday the 30th will see more time for me to read, probably my last opportunity before reveal.

I haven't even hit The Terror yet, and I requested that fandom, so I'm eager to see what stories were written. I expect I'll exceed the 35 I mentioned with little trouble.

10 per day through the weekend. (Already have done 10 per day so far).

Update: I have left 66 comments. If I get 4 more by author reveals I'll meet my goal of 10 per day, yay!

They were mostly short comments in the last 3 days, sadly. I usually do longish, with quotes and reactions, but I've been on a family tourist trip since the 28th and only have had car rides and before bed to do my reading.

(My still-to-read list is 38 fics long at the moment. I wish I could get to all of them before the anon period is over, but alas.)

I'm not into that many fandoms, so I already commented on all the fics I finished reading and liked. So, about five, I think.

Same. I read maybe a dozen and commented on a little more than half of them. It gets less every year. :( (Not blaming Yuletide or the much talked about 'shrinkage'! This is 100% on me. I used to read far more broadly than I do now.)

Anyone want specific goals, e.g. "Comment on 5 m/m fics, leave 3 comments on a TV fandom, etc", to help them tackle their pacts easier?

I was one of the coalies aiming for 30 comments and ended up leaving 52! This Yuletide was really good to me.

I have no idea how many comments I've left! Should I have been counting along the way? Is there any way to tell now?

Also are you all counting madness in this?

DC I wasn't in the commenting pact, but I went back through my History on AO3 and was able to add them all up.

I included Madness, yeah. And I have the "email you copies of your own comments" option turned on, so I keep track by counting email notifs.

I had the goal of 35 by the end of the anon period, then decided I might be able to hit 50. I ended up having much less time than anticipating and got a little burned out, frankly, but I did read and comment on 37 stories.

I'm not done reading and commenting, but I'm done during the anon period. I think the reveal is in about 5 hours, and I'm off to hang with family this evening.

It's really shocking how many request a fandom with heavy squee and multiple paragraphs, comment on their own gift and ignore every other story in the fandom. Particularly in ones where the stories are all pretty similar and could really be for almost anyone who requested it. People are just so stingy with their comments and kudos. Seems a lot worse this year than it used to be, but I'm sure that might just be my fanfic/Yuletide burnout talking.

You just gave tl;dr about why you’re done commenting for now but not for good, but don’t understand that other people may be in the same boat? Have you seen them announce publicly that they’re finished commenting or something?

It's 3 am here, the time reveal is supposed to happen, and I managed 50 comments after all.

I got one of these Hall of Fame comments from a complete stranger in the past hour and now I understand why people want to write these commenters gifts just out of sheer gratitude.
