Genuinely surprised at the people who said they'd reject a giftfic for any reason at all. I always thought of the refuse button as the nuclear "you fucked up" button outside of flash exchanges.

I would reject if thought it was spitefic (I request m/m and they give me m1 dead and m/f or something) or it contained something so horribly offensive to me I needed it gone. If it's just bad, or insensitive in that clueless way some people can be, eh. I don't have to worry about triggers, I'm genuinely fortunate in that way, but the closest I come is animal or child torture and abuse, and if someone wrote me those, I'd reject with no qualms.

Otherwise, I'm easygoing.

And, having had a gift rejected? It FEELS pretty annihilating there for a bit, I cannot lie.

Recip is a jerk, basically, with lots of unvoiced assumptions about what they want.

Once I learned that, I felt a little better. Not much! But some.

I was surprised, too, especially since as far as we can tell this seems to just be badfic, not mean or offensive fic. Could they have accidentally given it to the wrong recip or something?

Me too! I've rejected one fic, ever, and it was a situation where they apparently assumed that a DNW was overwritten by a poorly-worded prompt on my side and inadvertently stomped up and down on one of my anxiety triggers as well as my embarrassment squick. I found the fic so excruciating I could barely read it, and I found myself getting anxious every time I looked at my AO3 dash because I knew it was there on my gift page.
