I very nearly didn't finish this treat. Given subsequent reveals, I am so fucking glad I managed to do so.

Aw, does the recip/fandom love it? Congrats, coalie!

cyrt The response has been positive! But the main reason I'm super-glad I got it finished and posted it is what the recip's other gift ended up being.

You're a good egg, coalie.

\o/ Good for you, coalie!

I pushed to finish two stories that missed the main collection and posted them into Madness, even though I don't like to do that unless it's <1k. It's like a comment desert there, to me, so I was just hoping the recips enjoyed them. I had comments waiting from both recips when I woke up, both completely amazing *and* lengthy (in Madness!) and I'm so so glad I didn't shelve the stories.

I'mma bask in that praise for some time.

I didn't write this treat or you. I wrote it for the fandom and then looked for someone who would appreciate it based on their prompts. I'm glad you liked it, but I feel guilty that I didn't have you in mind when I did it.

I got a treat with nothing in the notes to suggest it was for me (as opposed to for the fandom/for the author's own enjoyment), but I commented like it was anyway, just in case. So if this is me, no hard feelings! A gift for the fandom is still just as much of a gift :)

Just as a data point, coalie, I don't tend to leave author's notes directed at the recip. Rarely, at best. Anything I want to say typically gets said in my reply to their comment later. If it's tagged to you and on your gift page, just assume it was written for you!

I wrote you an entire fic. That's enough interaction for now.

I only add notes when there's something people should know or keep in mind about the story before reading it. That's rarely the case.

I usually leave something in the notes thanking the recip for the prompts but this year I was sick and sleep-deprived and just did the minimum for tags and summary and notes. I really do want to thank this recip for introducing me to the fandom so maybe I'll write something for NYR.

You can always say that in reply to their comment, too.

Same, but I don't feel guilty about it, because it's what I wanted to write and it's what the recipient asked for, so everyone's happy.

+2, because I did it twice, and both recips liked, so all's well.

I started a treat for one person, went down an unexpected rabbit hole with it, realized that what I'd written didn't fit with the original recipient's requests anymore, then found a different person whose requests were a slightly better fit and gifted it to them instead. Not my finest moment.

When I went to post my last treat to Madness last night, I almost posted it to someone else who'd requested that fandom. I actually put their name in and had previewed before I decided it fit the original recip's prompts better.

You say treating someone different wasn't your finest moment, but I don't see how there's a thing wrong it. You gave it to someone you thought might appreciate it more. Yay for them, yay for you!

thanks coalie!! the new recip hasn’t said anything yet when they’ve always been an extremely prompt commenter before, so I’ve been working myself into knots worrying that I wrote this thing that I was excited about writing but maybe they weren’t excited to unexpectedly get. but I know I need to give it more time!
