Ha, maybe Beatrice otter is trying to make it clear she did not write this particular unrequested poly.

Isn't beatrice_otter the one who's ace and won't read/write relationships, while rosefox is the pan+polyvangelist?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-27 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
beatrice_otter is the one who wrote M/F no-homo spitefic with the female half of the M/F pairing running over the other half of the requested M/M pairing with an ambulance for someone who requested M/M.

No wonder she likes this no-lesbo M/F spitefic, then. *makes hacking sound in throat*

NC Maybe this is a regional thing but I find lesbo/lezzo really offensive (more offensive than dyke, even). Is that not the case where you're from?

If it were, I sure wouldn't have used it.

Is elijah a lesbian? Cause, honey.

It's offensive where I am too. I wondered if you were using it ironically, like how some people reclaim slurs, but it still made me wince.

I don't use homo or lesbo on the regular in everyday conversation, but neither of the no-____ versions offend me. Sorry if it upset anybody, but in context I'll admit I'm surprised about it.

(Anonymous) 2019-12-27 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm surprised, too. I've never seen a similar response to no-homo as a phrase to describe this sort of situation, and it throws me that people are responding this way to the no-lesbo version.

Me, too.

It'd be different if used as a pejorative, obviously, but it wasn't.

No worries! I hadn't seen this particular no-___ version before, so that's why it jarred me. But I get what you meant now.

No problem, coalie!

Would anyone mind reminding me how many years ago this was and what the mods did? She still seems to be very much around!

It was 2013: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1086024

Not sure if the mods did anything — it was very much a different time for Yuletide.

Classic wank about it, featuring coal defending beatrice-otter:

New coalie as of this year wants to thank you for sharing the classic wank! I love the sleuthing.

It didn't get revealed as a wank until a couple years later. Even if it had come up in 2013, I doubt the mods would have done anything -- it didn't actually violate any DNWs.

A lot of the support for b_o seems like the work of a troll.

Re: Early Rejects

(Anonymous) 2020-01-01 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who was there (I was the coalie who said "the point where the Awesome Woman ran over one half of my requested M/M ship with an ambulance is probably the point where I'd assume it was spite fic"), no, I don't think it was just a troll. I think some coalies didn't check out the work, relied on the description, and therefore weren't convinced at first.

...I also think b_o or her friends may have been around.

I wouldn't be surprised. It took me a pretty thorough read of the fic after I already knew what to look for to actually spot where whatshisname gets pancaked by the ambulance. In terms of making action beats clear, the writing is damn opaque and honestly not very good.
