if you think the yuletide mods suddenly want to deal with participants chastising one another (potentially in public like comments) over the rules you are insane.

if you think another participant did bad, let the mods know privately. that is the extent of your lane. the mods can then decide what to do, including not saying anything at all to the author (maybe op had phrasing in the letter that made it seem like characters were optional and didn’t realize, so the author literally did nothing wrong! the mods will look into this before they do anything) or giving the author a heads up, or just adding them to a “check at deadline” list without alerting them.

seriously, we should not encourage 1.5k people with different interpretations of the rules to start doing citizens arrests/“friendly reminders”, wth coal.

+ 100000000000 Holy shit. This isn’t a “NOBODY TALKS TO EACHOTHER ANYMORE” issue what the fuck? You don’t have any authority to explain. For all you know, morbane herself was the author of the fic. Let the mods handle it.

So you think the ideal response to getting a gift you like is to complain to the mods that you think your recipient doesn't understand the rules despite 1) giving you a gift you like that 2) features both of your requested characters? The real point is that there is no problem at all, so the mods don't need to be involved. The suggestion that she contact the recipient herself and explain about the and matching rule was solely a, "Woah, calm down and consider your adult options, crazy," suggestion, and certainly not one that is going to lead to some insane rules anarchy, since any reasonable participant is going to know that the mods are the ultimate arbiters of the rules and they were just receiving a suggestion for the future from someone with no authority.

Are you an actual adult capable of functioning in the real world?

features both of your requested characters

It doesn't. That's the point.

It does though. See the original comment.

I feel really bad for people that have to deal with you on a daily basis, good lord.

Citizens arrest? Are you actually unhinged?

Re: Contact mods or no?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-25 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Fucking seriously. And this is still the most spoiled brat reaction I've seen to anything in a while.

You do see the people acting like giving the mods a heads up is reporting the author to ICE, right?

It is not the end of the world or even mean to prevent further issues down the line. Your OTT reaction to a throwaway line further shows that you have no sense of scale for how straightforward this actually is. It’s only wank because you apparently think a morbane email is more embarrassing/weird than your recip telling you that you fucked up.

Re: Contact mods or no?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
So you are unhinged, since you're now comparing it to ICE raids.

Ah, I see you too can't read are a troll.

You're the one comparing this to citizens arrests and then ICE.

Ah so you are trolling, ok.

+1 DO NOT start policing it yourself. Message the mods and mention you don't need an APH, they will deal with the rest as they see fit.

Re: Contact mods or no?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really think this is "policing" it. Are you saying a recipient doesn't have the right to tell the author what they think unless it's a positive comment about the fic? Everything else should go through mods?

Re: Contact mods or no?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
“Hey heads up, you broke the rules by not including my characters. Someone else may be mad but I don’t care.” will likely have the mods coming to yell at *you* even if you are right. That is not normal concrit or a non-positive note on the fic, it is someone other than the mods acting like they are a mod by telling you the rules.

Re: Contact mods or no?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Really?? Okay, I believe you. I've never done that but I've also never realized there was a rule against talking about the rules.

Re: Contact mods or no?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I guess it never occurred to you that this discussion could occur in a way that wasn't quite that ridiculous. "Hey, I really liked my fic, and I personally have no complaints about it, but I suspect you might be new to the Yuletide and matching system, so I wanted to give you a heads-up for future years that generally you're expected to give more equal screen time to both requested characters. Once again, I loved this fic and am in no way complaining. I just wanted to save you potential headaches if you participate in the future, which I hope you do, because you're a great writer."

I would a million times prefer to get a private nudge from the mods than a comment like this if I was the author. (Also, it's hella condescending.)

Re: Contact mods or no?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
In all seriousness, that's the kind of comment I'd be tempted to delete. I wouldn't want that on my fic. A brief heads-up from the mods would be vastly preferable.

If it deals with breaking the rules of the exchange, yes, go through the mods. You can say whatever you want to your writer, but if you choose to use this (public) way to tell them they about their rule breaking/misunderstanding, the mods will probably scold you.

Re: Contact mods or no?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I think your problem is that you assume everyone else participating in Yuletide is as much of a hysterical moron in need of hand-holding as you.

Re: Contact mods or no?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
the mods will literally tell you they’ll look into it and that will be the end of the whole matter on your end. in what world is that hand holding? do you think the recip is cc’d on emails or the mods play telephone?

Re: Contact mods or no?

(Anonymous) 2019-12-26 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
As a mod for other exchanges, + a million!

Please please please privately bring this kind of thing to the mods' attention so that we can investigate and act or not at our discretion. Don't take it upon yourself to publicly shame someone in a comment.
