Tried for two in the latest batch, got one! Excited to get cracking.

Saw one I quite liked, then saw the letter and noped the fuck out of there.

beatrice_otter went to pinch hits lol. So did the person who wanted "ott extremely underage noncon incest" with the same wording for two separate fandoms.

I was mulling stepping on that grenade and writing b_o a pinch hit, but it appears someone else did (unless the mods handling PHs wrote a typo or something else happened). It’s probably a good thing, since I don’t see eye to eye with her on one of her fandoms, and I would’ve done some sort of a mini-marathon to write one of her fluffy prompts in another fandom.

As someone who's in this batch... What are the default rates for post-deadline pinch hitters in the past? Been defaulted on twice already and just feeling really down about my sign-up. And now I won't be able to stop worrying about going out a third time.

Not sure of stats but chin up, coalie! The weekend is coming and a lot of people go on break this time of year, plus additional eyeballs! I'm sure it will work out.

FYI, I know at least one person who defaulted on a PH they'd picked up did it entirely for unexpected RL reasons, and I would suspect the same is the true for a lot of people who default on PHs they picked up. I wouldn't think it has anything to do with your sign-up.

The only way I see it being signup related is if canon is hard to get. If someone thought they could get canon and then found they couldn't, they might default. If that's the case and you have a source, you might want to add a link in your letter.

I feel you. I got defaulted on twice in a previous exchange and then lingered for ages and it really hurt my confidence. But I think it's usually issues with the writer rather than the sign up. Try not to worry!

Don't despair. This happened to me on my first Yuletide, with my post-deadline pinch hitter also defaulting. I was still a pinch hit twelve hours before the collection opened and ended up with six gifts and had the best Yuletide ever. It's probably not about your sign-up either, and instead just real life getting into people's way, mixing up deadlines, that sort of thing.

I defaulted on a pinch hit, and it was totally IRL issues and had nothing to do with the recip or request. I'm hoping to still finish it as a treat!

A dirty secret of exchanges is that the longer you linger as a pinch hit the more likely you are to get above-average fic tailored to your prompts/likes. Asking for what you really want and holding your nerve usually pays off.

No guarantees, but don't despair!

The one's I usually get are average untailored fic someone wrote after finding the canon on youtube.

Saw a fandom I like a lot, but with absolutely no details and no suggestions, and a placeholder letter for months now. Nope.

Just woke up a bit ago to see they were all posted. There's one unclaimed PH I have an idea for, probably not much more than a thousand word idea, and their likes are scant, they comment about half the time, but have for their last few gifts.

I'd enjoy writing the idea and it would fit their request, so I guess I'll email and see. I hope that doesn't seem greedy, and maybe they won't even give it to me since I've gotten a PH already. Nearly done with that one, though.

Aww, nope. Went back and somebody had claimed it. I'm not motivated enough to write the idea as a treat right now.

Back to work on the current PH!

I was a pinch hit and apparently someone's already written the fic for me bc now I have a gift. Damn, that was fast work!

May have been a story they intended to treat you with that they've already been working hard on. Or they're just speedy and your prompts blew their mind!

actually that might have been me, your original assigned writer. sorry I missed the deadline so I'll have to write an NYR but I had already written your assignment so I posted when the collection was open again. felt bad because I already had a gift myself
