Coalie in Post-DeadlineLand

Coalie was beginning to get very tired of waiting for their gift to be posted, and of having nothing to shake: once or twice they had peeped into the tags of the fic their dentist had been gifted, but it had no characters or freeforms on it, "and what is the use of a fic," thought Coalie, "without ships or tags?"

A dirty secret of exchanges is that the longer you linger as a pinch hit the more likely you are to get above-average fic tailored to your prompts/likes. Asking for what you really want and holding your nerve usually pays off.

No guarantees, but don't despair!

The one's I usually get are average untailored fic someone wrote after finding the canon on youtube.

DC

I have found this is very very much not the case for me. I wish it had been!

My experience is the exact opposite. Every time I've been a lingering pinch-hit I've ended up with minimum word count bland nothing.

I've written pinchhits that are longer than my main assignments.

Not as "shameful" as treats that are longer than both. Even though it's understandable, the assignment/PH is still what you "signed up" to write.

Length is not a good measurement of effort or quality. There's nothing shameful about treats that are longer than assignments or pinch hits as long as assignments and pinch hits are also done well and good gifts.

It wouldn’t occur to me to worry about this. I’ve had great 2k ideas for assignments and great 6k ideas for treats, and I write them that long.
