Fewer than 40 works with no comments

In the main collection, anyway.

Pretty good!

I'm surprise Madness has more commentless works overall. It doesn't take much effort to say thank you for a drabble.

I wonder how many works have no recipient comment, but that would be so tedious to look up.

I feel like Hokuto might be significantly responsible for bringing the number down - they commented on a treat I wrote that had zero comments (the recip still hasn't showed up). :'))

The fic I wrote for my assigned recip and a treat I wrote have no recip comments, but I got a comment from someone else on the latter this morning so I now have at least one comment on every fic I wrote.

I wonder how many of the recips that didn't comment just defaulted months ago and haven't been interested in Yuletide since.

This is what I always assume. The one year I had no recip comment, they also defaulted, and there was no evidence they did anything with the exchange at all, so... what can you do?

stop posting about the problems of ffa on here and create your own fucking meme

THIS IS A YULETIDE MEME

It's a compromise I make with myself so I feel less of an urge to orphan.

They forgot to take off the tag giving away that they bought it late at the dollar store, but within the selection there, it was thoughtfully chosen and nicely wrapped.

RL stopped me from editing my busfic, so I feel guilty/pleased that it got more than just the recip comment.

The gift I received is better, go show my writer some love instead!

it was the fic your dad wrote

Early defaults

I think it's fine that you can sign up again if you default early but I think you should also have to comment on your gift.

(Anonymous) 2024-12-30 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
I too am miffed, miffed I say, over the lack of a recip comment mumblemumble.

+1

I hate it. I would like to check out the authors' other works, but I'm not going to remember going back and checking out who wrote what unless I get the comments with the authors' names attached.

My dad actually did write a Yuletide fic one year, because when I told him about the exchange he was curious and decided to treat someone. IIRC the fic was of middling quality and the recip liked it.

Hey, it's me, the coalie who originally posted that! Thanks for being the one person who got that I was making a joke. I just wanted to get some foodwank metaphors going. /shrug

Eh, some of FFA's Attack on Titan conversations have been pretty grim too.

But I think it's more that trolls are good at identifying volatile topics that are likely to upset people and selectively target those threads. The sexual assault thread has also been relentlessly trolled all year, and at first maybe it was about trying to shut down criticism of Gaiman but it seems much more expansive now. That troll is a little subtler and often gets nonnies to bite - it's genuinely unclear to me what the Nazi troll hopes to accomplish, because they just get themself immediately modcalled and screened - but it's the same general logic. People's feelings about AoT are less strong, so it's a less appealing target.

a wand and a rabbit - this is the only fandom I know. i thought it did really well with Ag(atha)ness's voice, less so with Rio's. the sex was hot but everything else felt derivative.

the awkward age - much better written than the first. it gave me a good general sense of the characters. not much to say otherwise, i thought this was excellent, i'd be over the moon if it was my gift.

Taking the Lead - generic. fine. i couldn't tell you anything about them even if i tried. too long for what it's trying to do.

the way we touch (i wish i didn't like it so much) - similarly generic and too long for what it's trying to do. the language used in the smut is exactly the same as most fics out there which bored me. it was better about giving the characters some personality.

In fact, why stop there. Replace make-up NYR gifts with make-up comments /bad idea

I definitely get the feeling that people are barely even looking at Madness works this year. Has it always been this bad?

4) most importantly, the mods thinking there's a need for change (they clearly don't)

Eh, the choice to remove FFN from the equation had to come from somewhere too, right.

Agreed on most your points but changing the cutoff seems like something that could still work.

I'm not sure I've ever looked at madness tbh.

Coalie, this inspired me to go and Be The Change, so I'm making my way through Madness now!

+ 0.5

I always look at Madness excited for more fic, and then get disappointed by what I find, unless it's a gift me for. It's not that Madness fics are all bad, they're just collectively not relevant to my interests for some reason.

I haven't even looked at Madness works yet. I haven't finished reading the main collection fics that I want to leave comments on. TBH, I rarely read fics under 1k under normal circumstances because I find them too short to be satisfying, so I often don't like Madness fics very much.
