Morbane's coal

In quantum wankchanics, Morbane's coal is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, of quantum wankerposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical gift may be considered simultaneously both the fic of your dreams (TFOYD) and coal, while it is unread state, as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.

The Coaltide interpretation implies that, after a while, the gift is simultaneously TFOYD and coal. Yet, when a coalie clicks on their gift, the coalie sees the gift either TFOYD or coal, not both TFOYD and coal. This poses the question of when exactly quantum wankerposition ends and reality resolves into one possibility or the other.

Depends. I would like to offer an alternative suggestion, but I'm worried it'll lead to another three days of wank rehash.

I just disagree, coalie. It's been too long with too many near-DNWs for me to believe they're just innocently having fun and don't realize.

Seems like that would make them a spotty/sometimes commenter, not a noncommenter.

I feel like you're responding to an entirely different comment than the one I wrote.

Too quiet?

Only one EPH for something that sounds like a good faith attempt (I agree that the person deserved another gift, but the first gift wasn't a placeholder or anything). All in all a very quiet Yuletide. And at least one pre-reveals pinch hit that might have been because the mods caught a DNW (the crackfic True Detective one).

Did we just get lucky or something? Did the mods crack down on things that might not even have been problems? Or are people getting DNWs and feeling too meh to complain about them?

Nah. Aurae doesn't enjoy people thinking they're pathetic.

That is, I don't think he's blithely innocent and well-meaning. He couldn't care less about writing something his recipient will enjoy, and is aware that he's likely to surprise them in bad ways. I just don't think upsetting recipients with his content is a specific motivation either. He gets to be weird in front of people and people are socially obligated to pay attention and be polite about it. That's the win.

I was responding to your comment. I just don't agree with you. I think you're much more willing to give benefit of the doubt than I am, which, no harm, no foul. But I understood you perfectly fine.

They enjoy disrupting threads and upsetting nonnies. That's all they have left now that they've been booted from every exchange.

It's more like the difference between leaving multiple paragraphs of feedback and leaving a terse 'Thanks.'

Getting a kick out of making people interact with your kink content is a kink, though. It’s equally plausible to me that he’s getting off on it.

#1- one. Mine.
#2- two, one of them being my gift. I lucked out, because my gift was seriously better than the other fic.

They really didn’t say the opposite though.

Even the comments he leaves on fics come across as vaguely attention-seeking.

It's because of the extra character selection options, they magically averted all wank.

I think it's the mods cracking down on things that might not have been problems. I got some questions after deadline about interpreting my DNWs so I'm guessing they must have been checking, and either my answer reassured them or the writer changed the fic because it was fine.

Let's not forget him writing long, detailed descriptions of his writing process in the yuletide com where everybody else was busy reccing and his weirdly critical comments, even on his own gifts. He was always a fucking joy.

I almost forgot about those. I think it's safe to say they didn't cause extra wank, so we're probably stuck with them now.

They also could have other hobbies, or could have gone off to plague some other part of the internet.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-30 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't that be nice?

Not at all familiar with the canon but this was a goddamn delight, thanks for the rec!

Reading through it and there's a character called the Count of Monte Dumas. Come on man
