Morbane's coal

In quantum wankchanics, Morbane's coal is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, of quantum wankerposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical gift may be considered simultaneously both the fic of your dreams (TFOYD) and coal, while it is unread state, as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.

The Coaltide interpretation implies that, after a while, the gift is simultaneously TFOYD and coal. Yet, when a coalie clicks on their gift, the coalie sees the gift either TFOYD or coal, not both TFOYD and coal. This poses the question of when exactly quantum wankerposition ends and reality resolves into one possibility or the other.

CYRT

I checked their comments on their recent exchange fics for my own peace of mind. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they do comment but like I said, not going to hold my breath for it.

Hm - I don't know Octopath Traveler II, and the prose is fine, but this really reads to me like a summary of the canon, while nothing actually happens in the fic itself.

You know, I really miss eating lobster rolls. The thing about living in California is that they don't really have them here, whereas when I lived in D.C., I could just go and buy one at this really cool market. Man, D.C. is really pretty at Christmas too, with all the lights. Really put me in the Yuletide spirit when I lived out there, especially since the trees would be covered in snow. It was just nice to sit in my dorm room, drink some hot chocolate, and read my gift.

My gift had a nice author's note talking about how much they enjoyed writing for this fandom. My name was mentioned nowhere except in the appropriate gifted to field. A++ author's note, would read again!

Sounds like the writer did a good job of hitting the recip's likes, maybe their letter had a clear outline of what they wanted?

No, you’re just boring.

+1

The goal of a fic exchange is to make the recipient happy, not randos browsing the collection. Unless the story is about making genocidal assholes look like cuddle bears, who cares?

Also DC is almost never snowy at Christmas? It's damp and brown at best. We've had snow on the ground Christmas day maybe three times in the past 40 years and even then it was usually week-old yellow slush. I don't know where they were before California, but not here.

People browsing the collection hoping to read something other than yet another mediocre ATG fic care.

Ahhhh xxxholic. I love this fandom and haven't thought of it for ages! I was excited to read fic for it.

We Can Take Our Time - I enjoyed this more lighthearted story that showed Doumeki and Watanuki in an established relationship. I probably enjoyed this one the most but that's because I am a shipper at heart and love Watanuki/Doumeki.

Doumeki Ruins Everything, Like Always - I enjoyed this more lighthearted competitiveness from Watanuki that's unrelated to a spiritual catastrophe.

The Next Best Thing - I like the subtle physical connection between Doumeki and Watanuki but was a bit saddened by the down ending.

Some of us prefer longer fic. Idgaf how long the story "needs to be".

They may care, but it's gift fic for one specific person. The point is making that person happy not pleasing randos who see the characters differently.

My writer swapped the two requested character's names and i don't know how to comment on this argh argh argh

A little tiny bit longer at 1057 words, but I thought this fic about two squishable toys having tea and soft fluffy comfort was adorable and complete as is (and is an unwrangled fandom, so get in now):

I enjoy longer fic unless it keeps going after it's run out of plot and character development.

If you don't want mediocre ATG fic, you should not be reading exchange collections. That's on you.
