I have a treat lightly plotted

(Anonymous) 2019-10-29 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I could end up matching with this person, in which case it would be my assignment. If not, pretty sure they'll get this story as a treat. I almost feel a little guilty, because their letter mostly had prompts for a character not nominated, but one grabbed me and hasn't let go.

Anybody else already in the planning or writing stages?

I have an outline for a treat! I was afraid I'd forget my ideas by the time it actually rolled around. I may start writing it if I get a muse! :)

Yay for us! :) I like to get things done early, typically, but I'll still fiddle up until the deadline with most things.

Yes! I have a few potential matches and ideas for two of them. Hoping it means I will have at least one in drafting stages by the time I find out if either of them is my assignment.

I also have a treat started from a previous Yuletide that I hope will get requested again this year. Whether or not we match, just knowing they still want it will give me motivation to finish.

I've already started a treat! Hopefully I actually finish it, but I really like the idea of it. I'm just worried that I won't quite hit the thing the recip sounded most excited about in their likes list, but two cakes, right? I'm hitting a lot of their other likes, and going off a prompt they had.

(I'm not signing up, so no worries that I'd match them.)

Is it OK to say I've only watched up to x season, so please set fic before then, or after then but only with what was known then? Or is that bad Yuletide etiquette?

\o

I haven't signed up for Yuletide in a couple of years, so hoping to get back in the game with some treats. But it won't happen if I don't start now, so I'm already collecting letters and starting drafts. Fingers crossed for not failing this time.

It's fine, coalie.

Writing Goals and Plans

(Anonymous) 2019-10-31 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
hello fellow coalies

what are your ambitions for this year of Yuletide and how do you plan to support yourself to achieve them?

Re: Writing Goals and Plans

GOAL: Finish my assignment by December 1
How:
-very restrictive offers with short canon review

(Before anyone points out that I should give my recipient due care, believe me, ensuring that a beta has time to look at my assignment will markedly improve it, and also I often get second and third ideas for a fic while working on the first one)

GOAL: Write one treat
How:
-idk, man, be nice to myself? I'm hoping I can consume a totally new canon that gives me fresh ideas and prompts me to write immediately.

I'd also like to finish my assignment by the first of December, if I can! Other than that, "more treats than last year" is the big one. I'm going to try to go through letters I like and take down some notes before assignments are out. That way, I can set them aside and focus on my assignment, but I'll have some ideas for treats to come back to once my assignment's done, instead of starting from scratch in December.

I'd like to write at least three treats. Two if I pick up a pinch hit.

I'm only treating, not signing up, so I'm hoping to do multiple treats. Maybe 5? Though if I can find the time and make them good, not kittyfic, my ultimate goal would be able to do a treat or two a week until work reveals. So 8-16-ish? But that's very ambitious. 5 is safer, and still not guaranteed.

I just started writing ... could possibly be a match as recip, otherwise they'll get a treat!

I've never written a treat before! My goal this year is to write at least one, once the collection is live and I can see if any of my fandoms are lacking. This just means I need to get my main gift written sooner rather than later. I write shortfic best in big spurts... I'm thinking I'll set aside an afternoon sometime after I get my assignment and power through a first draft. (And if it gets long, then... I'll see how I go.)

So close and yet so far

(Anonymous) 2019-10-31 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I nearly offered a fandom because I love it and they asked for a character I've always wanted to write a fic for. They even have similar ideas for a plot that I've had! Buuuuuut they want a ship I don't like. :(

Question

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I've been doing this for twelve years and I still don't actually know: how many characters in a request/offer have to match for a writer/recip to be paired together? For example: if I were offering Scooby Doo, but only Velma and Shaggy, could I be matched to a person requesting Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby?

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Nope! Yuletide is "and" matching. You can only match on characters you offered (or "any" requests).

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
In that case, I'll go offer the third character. None of the letters mention that one, but for some reason, they're on every list in the app. Weird.

What are you writing/plotting/drafting?

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Since some people already seem to be getting started on treats (at least at the plotting/drafting stage), do you want to hint at what you are writing about so we can get excited about fic to come?

(Selfishly, I also want to talk about what I am working on because I am excited about this canon and the fic and get impatient when I remember that it's going to be almost 2 months until anyone else gets to see it).

Underappreciated sidekick and main antagonist fall in love. Things get heated, in more than one way. No one in this universe ever seems to have time to sleep.

(Anonymous) 2019-11-01 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Post-canon fic about falling in love, featuring training montages, adventure, pirates, and some h/c. And, if I can pull it off, done in the same style as the original work.

Lots of religious imagery and repressed emotions.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2019-11-02 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Coalie, the app shows every character in the tagset for each fandom, not just the ones people have requested.

I haven't sat down to do any plotting/thinking yet, but ohhh, person who requested a book series I've never seen nominated before and seems to feel the same way I do about it, you're getting something!
