Untherius tends to write in the blissful belief that he is writing to prompt though, he's also just adding in a bunch of other wonderful things his recip will clearly enjoy! Doesn't everyone?

His fic last year was, what, 30k of Disney Princess retelling that eventually tied in to his sprawling Tangled headcanonverse and also referenced Star Trek, I think. His prose is too awful for me to want to investigate further.

There was a weirder Howl's Moving Castle fic that crossed over with other things, made infamous because it included a character killing animals and eating their organ meat raw to survive, which was not remotely requested and which, unfortunately, was gifted to a vegan:

In between, there are some slightly more normal exchange works. As well as his sprawling epic verse involving Howl's Moving Castle, Tangled, and other Disney movies. He seems to achieve the least notoriety when writing original humor. Whether it's good is up to the reader.

It's so wild to me that this man is obsessed with Disney stuff in the worst possible way. He likes them because they're meek white women who fit gender stereotypes and then he does weird shit with them without ever making them real characters. I only like LGBT stuff and hate Disney so I'm safe from ever interacting with him or accidentally reading his stuff, but I feel bad for everyone who does share his fandoms because usually the requests are by women looking for more depth in their basic Disney canons and then you get...this man who lives in a LARP Mennonite society or whatever who is going to turn them into the Daughter-Wife archetype even more than the Disney original and then have them fuck a dog or whatever. Sucks.

I reject your dedicated thread. Who wants to wank about Unrequested Pairings in the ODAO thread with me?

I am unfortunately guilty of this which is why I now only write gen unless the requests are super amazingly 100% explicit about wanting romance. (In sort of my defence, the pairing was canon and they'd requested both of them and all the prompts were about them together, so my fic was as shippy as canon was.)

I don't think there's any reason to feel guilty about that, coalie, unless they said outright they didn't want it. I would have assumed it was fine too.

Though I did once see someone write gen for two requested characters that the recip obvs shipped (which is fine) but then the author included the ship that's usually the notp of the people who ship what the recip did. The recip didn't opt out and was nice in the comment but I felt bad for them and thought it was kind of a wanky move.

I've had this happen to me twice, both times when I asked for slash in a fandom that has an established het pairing. I assume my writer offered "any characters" because they didn't realize someone might ship the main male lead with a secondary guy, and then couldn't deal and just wrote about their favorite pairing instead. I have stopped requesting fandoms with established het couples bc of this.

Yeah it’s one thing to just write gen if you don’t ship the characters, but it’s another thing to write gen AND then add in an unrequested pairing when it’s made explicit that the author ships something else. Sorry you had that happen to you coalie!

I once asked for Adam/Bob for a canon where Adam/Bob and Adam/Steve are both canon. I emphasised that if they didn't ship it I'd be happy with gen focusing on the two, I got Adam/Steve with Steve lecturing Bob to not interfere in their relationship. These days I DNW Adam/Steve to make sure I don't get that situation again.
