-Two treats for two recipients, same fandom, each treat between 1-2k, exploring similar themes but one ending on a hopeful note, the other on a probable downer (not bad, but the natural conclusion of the source material).
-One longer treat, merging the two stories into something longer and little deeper, maybe making the ending feel like less of a downer.

Story concepts either complement each other well or they don't, and when they don't jamming them together just results in a badly structured mess.

Only you can judge whether these two ideas would like to coexist in the same fic or really need their own space, OP.
