We've had multiple mini wanks about it. Here's my take: complete ODAO, as in not even taking in the spirit of the request, is only acceptable when the recip says nothing at all about the canon. That, or the recip is a wanker.

Maybe you include this under "recip is a wanker" but I think if the recip has a single highly specific prompt, no other likes or anything else to build off of, it's fine to be like "okay, but this single prompt is not something I want to write". Like the AoGG letter this year where they want a movie fusion with a specific movie, I think they gave some other option, but if they hadn't, going ODAO on that is fine.
