The best - was the time I got a wonderfully written treat for my OTP in the tiniest fandom of my heart. My main gift was also my OTP for this fandom, just with a different prompt and take on the ship but also extremely good, so I felt doubly blessed.

The worst - when somebody wrote me something that was so ODAO that I wondered why it was gifted to me at all - it had the fandom and characters but excluded all my likes and skirted close to a DNW without actually crossing that line. And the prose was technically competent but sort of waffling and pretentious. I hesitated for a few days while trying to come up with a gracious comment... and then got a private message from the author, deanoning against the rules and rudely demanding why hadn't I commented on their ~~masterpiece~~ yet. In the end I thought, screw this dick and refused the gift, also blocking them from my Tumblr and DW. I felt a bit guilty about being ungracious for a bit... but yeah, their behavior was... certainly A Lot.

Best: a fic in my tiniest fandom that was soooo good.

Worst: unrequested poetry. It was doggerel, but the author is a good egg who meant well, so I appreciated the thought.

Best: It's hard to pick. I'll go with the first YT treat I ever received, a fairly long (5k+) canon-style casefic in a nostalgic children's canon with almost no fic. I was so delighted to be thought of, and it was just a fun, light-hearted romp of a fic.

Worst: Probably the plotless fluff I got for a really angsty canon/ship. It was clearly well-meant, but it was not my thing.

I've gotten a lot of fantastic treats over the years. The one that gave me a whole new understanding of the canonical villain. The one with panty-dropping heat of zero-G sex between two very sexy ladies. And several that perfectly captured what I love about a particular relationship or setting.

The worst was a short Madness treat I assume was written by someone who wasn't a native English speaker and hadn't been beta'd. I copy-pasted it into Word, fixed the spelling errors, and made a stab guessing the homonyms and filling in the missing words, trying to make sense of what was going on in the story. I never could figure it out. I'm glad they love the canon, and it was clearly written in response to my prompt, but it wasn't much of a gift.

Best: Honestly, so many of them, but especially the longfic from a friend who had been working on an unfulfilled request of mine since the year before.

Worst: Okay fic in a fandom not in the tagset that year and that I have never requested. I had mentioned it on social media during the Yuletide period, so maybe that was why? But I don't really know the fandom, so it was hard to comment well.
