Archive locking your fic is fine--your recip must have an AO3 account to participate, so they can access their gift no problem.

What is strongly frowned upon is deleting your fic. If it's necessary for your physical and/or mental wellbeing to delete your fic, the recommendation is to let the mods know and give your recip the opportunity to save their gift if they want. Otherwise, there's a decent chance you'll be banned from future Yuletides.

That's fine. I've just never encountered that until post-reveals! I knew the no deleting thing. That's why I have about ten orphaned YT fics floating around AO3 because I didn't even have the mental capacity to contact the mods at the time.

Will you still be permabanned from yuletide forever for deleting your fic?

That was the rule when they moved from the old archive to ao3 but I don't know if it's still in effect or if we've switched to a different model

I don't know what the penalty is but it still says you're not allowed to delete in the rules.

You are not allowed to delete your story or remove it from the collection once it has been uploaded. The mods may grant exceptions on a case by case basis upon request.
