My recip DNWs unrequested ships, or darkfic unless it's shippy. They also DNW gen fluff. They have no fandom-specific prompts; all their general likes are shippy. They have requested "any" and not requested any ships. At all.

Canon doesn't really have a casefic option, it's dystopian political shit and worldbuilding. Maybe I'll write a setting swap AU they didn't dnw that!

They requested all four nommed characters but given the characters it's pretty clear they thought it meant "any". Either way it does not narrow down their ships.

NA. I'd ask for clarification--do they want all four characters? If they do, how do they want the "different universes" issue handled. Are they open to AUs and if so, which kinds?

If the letter already makes it clear that you don't have to write all four nominated chars, pick the universe you like best and the pairings you want. People with strong pairing preferences aren't shy about sharing them.

You say the canon is dystopian. I think that should influence your conceptions of what "darkfic" or "fluff" are. I wouldn't lean too heavily into the grittier aspects of the canon but I wouldn't write curtainfic, either. Maybe political enemies make common cause against a third party without going too vicious (and with a side of sex)??

Write something with the three characters in the same universe. Write a coda with the fourth one stumbling across a universe-crossing device or being part of an assigned team looking to invade, etc., etc., adjust for fandom. The character really only needs to touch the device and disappear in a flash of light. Boom, they're included.

A version of that may indeed be what I write, but it will be odao'ing everything that isn't required. Oh well, guess they should have written a fandom-specific prompt or two.

My suggestion, since the canon is dystopian political stuff: write the shippy dark fic with 2 of the 3 characters (or all 3!) in one universe in a relationship, but concentrate in the plot, which involves destroying the other universe.

I don't know, but I did start laughing reading your comment. Poor coalie. I guess if they requested Any for the fandom you matched on and you can write a pairing for that fandom, just don't include a ship with characters outside the tagset and write a shipfic for them, using their general likes. If you can't, ODAO 1000 words of non-dark gen!

I'd consider contacting the mods to ask them if they meant for the requested characters to be shipped together in some configuration. It kind of sounds like they might've thought that requesting the characters is the same as requesting the ships.

I think it's actually somebody who copy-pasted their generic likes and DNWs, intending to come back and add prompts, abd then didn't. I guess I'll wait until the 30th to see if the letter actually grows prompts.

no unrequested ships - i'd assume they want canon ships
they are ok with shippy darkfic - that sounds like a canon specific thing
they don't want gen fluff - so other gen (like casefic or something canon-like) is ok.

My take would be they want shipfic between canon ships, plotty gen, or shippy darkfic

There are no canon ships, canon is 100% gen (the shippy likes are copy-pasted in all their fandoms.)
